Sorry me again. I have one days leave from work left to take this year and would like to do a perm on the day off, but I can be quite flexible about when I take the day off based on the weather. I don't want to inconvenience the organiser as I've already bothered him enough (Ian H on here).

What is the 'etiquette' of doing this? Best to book in a day and then advise of a different date? How close to the date is it reasonable to do that?

If you have to give a date when you make your entry, I'd use an obvious dummy (31/12/2020, something like that), then just email the organiser when you've settled on a date.

I don't think there are normally any problems with sending your 'hey, I'm riding today' email 30 seconds before you walk out of the door.

Is the £15 entry fee for the Easter Arrow per team or per rider?

Per team, only the captains submit an entry on behalf of their team.

Cheers - I may have just inadvertently become a captain. Is that wise considering I've never done one before?

Also, do all team members have to be AUK members?

It seems pretty simple. ride our bikes, get receipts and get to York. The only tricky bit is the 22hr bit - but that seems like a good excuse for a power nap.

Say you've got a route that crosses a bridge that's known to be closed for extended periods due to what's known as a "Police Incident".
How would that be handled if a closure occurred during a ride?
I usually start on one side of the bridge but would be under-distance if I set the end to the other side and there isn't much scope to divert it enough without a control in the middle of nowhere to get the 200km mark to land on the other end.

Not that the bridge operators ever remember to close the shared use down the middle during such an incident, as i discovered once.

It has been done: http://www.aukweb.net/results/archive/2017/listride/?Rider=14766
An interesting season - if I'm reading it right, Mr Gee only does 600s between December and Easter.

Sounds like one of those magnificent Scottish bridges, with alternative routes to the other side being astonishingly lengthy!

Here's an attempt at a general answer, approximately useless for that sort of Bridge:

GPS Mandatory Route: Make your start point the other side of the bridge. (If worried about whether you'll be able to get to your start when you want to, without a big diversion, start somewhere else altogether.) Easy to adjust the route to get a suitable distance. Control points can be anywhere on the route.

GPS Advisory Route: Similarly, don't include the likely obstruction in your ride. Put your controls anywhere to get a suitable (shortest-by-road) distance. Your actual route is almost certain to be longer, a "disdavantage" of Advisory routes.

Non-GPS Advisory Route, collecting receipts etc as proofs of passage: (This applies to obstructions anywhere on your intended route; and needs attention only if you are in danger of being out-of-time because of enforced over-distance)  Let the organiser know what happened, and what you did about it, with an idea of how much extra distance was necessary. Evidence of where you diverted through would help, as would your flawless previous understanding and application of the rules!

It is indeed one of the Scottish esturial bridges,  the big problem is the route heads for the sparsley populated and roaded highlands and by shortest route is disturbingly close to 200km with limited sensible scope to get an extra 3km in to allow for a finish at the other end of the bridge.

I start 5km on from the bridge from home making it more difficult still

The non-audax answer is to hop on the next train to Leuchars and ride back to Newport from there!

Although.... going by Glen Quaich does the job nicely!

The path to Bath is a very good start (except when it's full of skateboarders doing a charity ride!). I'd probably then head up Bannerdown, past Colerne, north of Chippenham to Sutton Benger, Broad Hinton, into Wroughton on the A4361 (maybe) and stay south of Swindon before heading on to Wantage, through the Lockinges and Harwell, skirting the southeast corner of Didcot – the gravel path along the railway to South Moreton has been pretty good the couple of times I've used it, doesn't look like it would get too muddy even in winter. And after that, I have no idea.

Disclaimer: Although I've ridden all those roads, I haven't put them all together into one route in exactly that way (specifically around Swindon, I often go north instead0, and not necessarily as an audax either.
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

I know some audaxes use the Wootton Bassett to Wroughton road, just south of Swindon, but I personally hate it.

Can I qualify for SR with nothing but DIY by GPS rides? Seem to remember seeing that they had to be BRM rides somewhere but can't remember/find where.

BRMs only for international recognition e.g. PBP qualification or ACP's SR. AUK has no such restrictions.

Does anyone know how long International Super Randonneur applications take to process? I submitted a claim in September and just want to be sure it went to the right place without hassling the organiser. Thanks.

I am processing ISR applications and am the sole cause of the delay. We ran out of badges, ordered a new batch that were sub-standard and had to get a replacement batch from another supplier. Literally the only thing holding things up now is stuffing the envelopes and going to the post office. Guess what I am doing this Friday evening and Saturday morning?
