A Bit Of Rough
« on: 27 June, 2012, 05:52:16 pm »
Several of us like riding off-road, whether that's roughstuff or full-on MTBing.  But it's not always easy to get to the Trail Centre or favourite bridleway.  If I feel an urge for some rough in the suburban yawn where I live, I might ride up this lane which is about 200m away from home, but a bit of a secret.

Show us your urban oases, however small.
Getting there...

This is just a few hundred yards from me and runs for a mile. And I can follow the old railway the other way. Strangely all three nearest Tescos are sited on the old railway.

This is Wimbledon Park, literally on my doorstep:

I lived not far from there when I was young, Brookwood Road. Are the tearooms by the underground embankment and pond still there?

Yes they're both there although the pond now seems to have been upgraded to 'lake' status 😊

I reckon that the cycle path I take on the way to work has a sufficiently broken surface to count as roughstuff in places.

I will try to find photos of:
Shark Lane (official Myers Lane, but Shark Lane sounds better and more apt)
Foxton Lane (it is really called that)
the original bit of COR, which is so off the beaten track that it doesn't have a name, and it has grass that is so high that if CL fell off we would never, ever find her again (I believe some of that grass may still be stuff in Deano's mudguards)

\o/ photos from the classic Foxton Lane ride, the one with SC on his Dahon....

And me on the Ridley with 23mm slicks :)

It was possibly the only time that CL won the competition for most SENSIBLE bike....
