Holger Seidel gets the Germany South to North record
« on: 28 August, 2022, 07:41:44 pm »
Holger Seidel, a 47 year old Velomobilist, has smashed Roland (Aerolandius)' record for the Germany South to North ride which was 33 hours. Holger started yesterday morning and finished this lunchtime with a time of 29 hours 57 minutes.

He hit a raccoon on the way and sustained some minor velomobile damage. I didn't know Germany had raccoons but apparently they are a real problem in some areas (imports from America).

Awesome achievement. I've watched a few of the videos on velomobileworld's YT channel. A pretty good demonstration of what the Bülk can do!

I knew about the raccoons! Escapees from a private zoo, IIRC (or rather, descendants of... )

Surprisingly low average Watts.

The likes of Christine Mackenzie can crank out over 200 for sustained periods.

It’ll be a Strava estimate which is bunk unless they had a power meter.  The aerodynamics will mean a lot less power (than a TT bike) required for that average speed with that amount of climbing, but I doubt that low. If someone can see if it is from a power meter I stand corrected

He had a power meter for his last Bülk ride in November so I assume he did for the record ride too.
