We could always set off on Wednesday morning.

That would certainly make life easier, but I don't want to be some kind of arsehole calling the shots as it's your tour!

Have you any idea of route yet / places to stay?
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Bobb - don't listen to him !

Come tourdaxing with us in the spring when it's nice.
The pleasure of pain endured
To purify our misfit ways

Not yet, soon. I still haven’t given up on the night riding element, perhaps on the way back  :demon:

Yeah, it wouldn't be so bad on the way back. Still fucking miserable, but better than right at the start....

Or a miserable adventure ;D

I'm a bit worried about you OD, I don't want you cycling off into the winter all alone, never to be seen again.

Why don't you wait for Spring?

Sounds fair. Sorry bobb, I think the night time departure post MEMWNS should be reinstated for dramatic effect. I’m confident loads of MEMWNSers are desperate to ride into the night with me. If you like you can chase me down in a train, which will add yet another frisson to the adventure.

I’m getting properly excited now!!!

Perhaps you're right ted, he just has to get it off his chest, suicide mission that it is.

I'm sure we can give OD an enthusiastic send off and you can teach him the art of the selfie so he can report his decline.

Being a man of letters ted, you can write his obituary too.

Well, yeah - I would say tell me where you'll be on Thursday night and I'll meet you there, but you won't be there. You'll either have packed and gone home due to an extreme case of "Fuck This" or you'll be dead in a ditch somewhere - your rotting corpse lost to the world until found next spring by some doggers....

Okay, I accept the challenge, I’ll work on a meeting point for Thursday night

Right then, this is starting to come together.  I have a PROVISIONAL ROUTE from Witham to York where I think we spend Friday night.

More detail to follow.  Thoughts so far???

Also, if it's York on Friday to get to Tan Hill on the Saturday as planned means about 80 odd miles. Arrival at Tan Hill will be in the pitch black. No views then! Probably have to leave in the dark too to get to wherever your next crazy destinaton is  :P

This had already occurred to me.  I was thinking of getting a train from York to somewhere like Northallerton and setting for TH from there.  Is Northallerton a good choice?

Yeah, NTR is fine. But... you ride through all the sh1t bits (the south & midlands) and use a train for some of The North?

Madness!

Yeah, the way I'd do it would be:

Ride through the night on Wednesday and into Thursday. Get train assistance from wherever that may be some time in the middle of Thursday to Barton-on-Humber (obvioulsy cycling over the bridge is essential) and stay there (or on the other side of bridge if time) Thursday night.
On Friday ride from Barton to Northallerton (or similar). Stay the night there.
Saturday a short hop to Tan Hill.

Probably way too sensible though  :P

You'd be better off riding to Leeds and hopping a train to Kirkby Stephen, then it's just up the hill to the pub.

Sadly, I'm at a gig that weekend.

I fancied riding up and over the Lincolnshire Wolds as that’s where we bailed from the 2013 Easter Arrow in the wee small hours when our water bottles froze and snow was blowing across the road.

Nevertheless your suggestions are worthy of consideration...

After going through a Yes/No scenario I decided there are too many people suggesting this is all madness (and I am not uup to fitness for big distances, especially overnight) so I'm not even going to look at the home front and ask.....I do look forward to watching your progress though!
