I think we can count today's and yesterday's high winds as signs of spring.

Squashed toads on the road to school.

Did you?
Of course not - they're far too fast for me.

Frogspawn in Priory Park. It had been there some time by the look of it.

And lots more, still being produced, in Churchill Gardens. A pretty grim day though.

Have the mid-winter/spring fusion going on...  freezing temperatures, snow, snowdrops, dafodils, birds gathering nesting materials.

I suppose one good thing about this current weather is that we'll probably get one of those 'explosive springs' when it finally warms up a bit.
All the stuff that is holding back due to the prolonged winter will all come out together in a spectacularly colourful but brief celebration.  :D
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Already happened here. At least twice, I think three times. All the crocuses and such in our garden came out and then died a couple of days later in the snow.

Well, I gave my dog his spring hairdo last weekend (AKA clippered off all his fur). I have actually never seen Google be cold before, but he is shivering inside the house
I have just ordered him a knitted argyle jumper from Amazon. I suspect Simon will refuse to walk him wearing it  ;D

He doesn't like it! (Google that is, Simon hasn't yet seen it)

Violets and primroses in full bloom...I swear they were shivering, though  ;D

And our first visit to a nursery this year, for a couple of bay trees, or maybe an olive, but too expensive so we came away with golden bamboo  :-\

The temperature in the garden is 6°C. The temperature in the hot water tank (entirely solar heated) is over 50°C.

Things are happening, albeit slowly. On Tuesday, near the end of my 'commute', was a green grass verge. When I returned it had a moderate sprinkling of celandines. Today (going N. against one helluva headwind)  there were 3 primroses on a S. facing bank in the morning. On the way home (yes there was a tailwind ;D) there were several flowers open on each of the 3 plants. Judging from the total absence of insects while we were working, they'll all have to wait a bit longer before they're pollinated.

Daffodils, violets & primroses in the Test Valley.
Somewhere in Hampshire: A butterfly. One of these:

It was freezing first thing, but after about 9:30 it really felt like spring.

Sudden death allergy attack?  Marvellous...

Yes, I was pondering this.  Expecting sudden onset of hayfever shortly as the plants go crazy.

If you want a bay tree, just let me know. There's a public garden round the corner from us where the buggers self-seed. The council just grub them up with the weeding.

I may have one in a pot in the garden. I'll check.

Edit: no, no potted bay trees. I've got a walnut and something else in that I can't identify - an oak, I think - but no bay trees.
