Sadly having just relocated from Wales to Lancs we can't join you, but we lived in Cemmaes, not a million miles from Dolgellau and we have done much cycling in the area. You can see pics of part of NCN route 8 here

Have a great weekend and we will be thinking of you   :)

Annie, I can recommend taking your hill climbing legs  ;D

Hill Gill, hope the move went smoothly, must speak very soon.

Those legs you mention, I think I left them behind last week on the way back from the coast, could you lend me yours instead? ;)

On the subject of legs I'm afraid mine are a little out of practice, only managed pootling in the last few days and the biggest hill is the one we climb to cross the railway line  :-\

We should have a BT line by the end of today so I will let you know the number Annie  :)

Thanks Gill.

I am nursing itchy, spotty skin at the moment, I had an allergic reaction yesterday and it has appeared again today, I think it is from some garden plants.

My legs had a good workout this morning and I intend to continue this week until Friday when I shall take it easy before the night ride.

Mind if I come along?

I'm booked into Kings hostel in Dolgellau from the 24th-28th. Last available bed, apparently.

I will clean the car out before we head to Wales.

Out of interest, am I in a mixed sex dormitory?

Ben & Ellen, Jan & I will be in one dormitory. I thought you might like to share with us, Annie. Sergeant Pluck, Teethgrinder & Fungus will be in another. Basically, it's your call, Annie. How many men do you want to sleep with in a single night? :o

Jezza, have you made arrangements to share with the ACF group? The dorms sleep 6 I think (or was it 8?). Either way, there's space.

I've not arranged anything on ACF - only with the hostel, who have just emailed me to say they are full on the 27th but can do the other nights. So maybe I'll go on the floor or something.

I'll sleep with anyone ;)

Only a few days away now.  Do you think my rear will stand up to any cycling?  Am planning to cycle to school in the morning for a meeting with a Finance bod so will see how it copes, only around 15 miles in total.

If you want my medical opinion then you will have to submit to a thorough examination!   :-*

Wales is hilly. A full day's cycling in Wales is about 35 miles for mortals. That will clearly have  to involve pub stops and cafés.

Weather forecasts are too far away at present to be reliable, but we've got 3 days.

On one of them I would like to climb Cader Idris.

On another I would like to have a decent bike ride.

On the other it will probably piss down and we will have to think of something to do. ;D

It most certainly is not hilly!
It's mountainous!!!

There appears to be a zero missing from your daily mileage. :demon:

So what do I need to take apart from clothes, bike, my breakfast cereal and milk, my pillow and my bed socks.   :P  Rain coat, woolly mittens, jumpers, spare socks, shoes, boots, 3 dogs and their bones?

Oh I say :o

Is that what we are to be getting up to on a rainy day in Wales?  I haven't even thought about taking dressing up clothes, *goes to look in special drawer for such items*

Machynlleth.

Yes but much mileage was to be had by seeing how many songs could be sung using this derivation of the town's name. E.g. to the Welsh Wailer classic,  'Delilah':

My, my, my, Mycuntluv
La la la la la la la la la

I have emailed Guy the Warden with our final numbers - 8.

On checking the records, he has not charged us for breakfasts, but your have all paid me for them at £4.50 per day. I owe you each £18. We will pay for them as we go - unless we choose to self-cater. Personally I prefer my breakfast cooked for me.

I don't know if we can buy packed lunches by the day. It might be useful if we could.

We'd love to be there,  on our doorstep etc but we'll be pushing no2 tandem up some serious hills (Welsh hills are alright, after a while you get used to riding over Llanberis pass twice on a short day ride!!!) - on hols   ;D

I shall take a supply of bottled beer and some wine. I'm partial to the occasional noggin (!) as is Ben.

The Cross Foxes pub looked nice as we passed, easy to find - right onto the road near the hostel, right at the T junction and it's about 5 miles on the right ;)

Rich.

Sorry chaps, I'm going to have to pull out of this one. I've got to go and meet a publisher.

Oh no :(  Great news about the publisher though.

Now wondering if I should still go :-\  Will let you know how I am after riding this morning, that is if I can stop shaking.

Unfortunate clash, Jezza, but go and get published!

So, everybody, we have a free place on the Wales weekend - Sat 24th - Weds 28th in Dolgellau. Any takers for a last-minute decision?

I think I ought to give the warden some notice of a reduction in numbers, but I'll try to fill the place first.
