Oh. En-gur-land are playing Russia, are we? I hadn't noticed lots of cars waving those pretty red-and-white first-aid crosses, but I must admit I hadn't been looking out for them.

Oddly, it's Chelski v Spartak Manchester.

I get the impression that you've just made a very clever pun, and if only I knew anything about football,* I'm sure I'd be giggling uncontrollably. :)

*Other than the fact that the team that wear red have a dragon as a mascot, and it's called the Arse-o-sore, or something, and it makes a very good target for office elastic-band practice.

It's the Champions League Final being held in Moscow.

But it just so happens that two English teams (Chelsea and Manchester United) got through to the final.

It's an environmental thing.

It's cheaper for Manchester United supporters to fly to Moscow than get on the tube from Wimbledon to Wembley.

Because the final is hosted by a different country each year.

Next year it's at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, year after in the Bernabeu in Madrid.

The last year it was won by a team in their own country was, err, Dortmund in 1996.

Actually, Wembley had been pencilled in for this year's final but Uefa didn't think it would be ready in time, so the chose Moscow.

To be honest, they probably should have two or three stadiums on standby and take a decision when they know the Semi-Final line-up.

It is ridiculous to be shipping 40,000 fans or so all the way to Moscow. Apparently there will be lots of empty seats as people have decided to watch it at home.
It is simpler than it looks.

We haven't left yet... just discussing...

I wondered: down to Leigh station, along the sea wall to Benfleet, a pint at the Barge Gladys, up Essex Way, through the Dawes Heath Road gateway and back along Prittlewell Chase sound any good?

Edit: although we could do that in reverse and go DOWN Essex way! ;D

Grrrrr, so that's why my fencers blew me out.  They were supposed to come round and measure up for a fencing quote tonight.

I know we can sit outside at the CB, and I've never seen a telly in there.

Leave here at 7.45?

Probably too late now.   But the curtain pole has been put up at last.

Can I put the TV on, or were the hooligans as bad as usual?

Hahahahahaha  ;D

I did 43.6mph down Essex Way on my dad's Thorn solo machine. He's never got it over 40mph.  :D

And I didn't pedal all the way down... and the saddle wasn't high enough for me... and I braked a few times...

He and mum did 45.9 on the tandem and delthebike got to 42.4.

I went out for a quiet pootle.  Roads were very quiet (9pm to 9.50pm), and I stopped for an "n+1" moment peering in through the windows of M*rc**n in Alvaston.
The worst bit were the swarms of flying things that splatted into my face in a strange parody of Dash in "The Incredibles".
