I took the track bike down the (thankfully empty, smooth and very wide, since I had no brakes*) psyclepath near home to scuff up the new tubs.  Did a few slaloms and a couple of sprints just to.make sure nothing rubbed or slipped.  It's pretty fast.

Friday I did a 100k, first of the year, mainly consisting of 20k of detours added into my usual 80k coffee-shop run. Discovered a puncture right outside a bike shop I'd dropped into to pick up a spoke key (he didn't have one) and allowed myself the luxury of having it fixed for me - first time in my life. Recovered my own tube, too - bloke would have chucked it, or fixed it for himself. Met an old chum in coffee shop and we spent a happy half-hour comparing injuries.

Blustery NE wind, thermometer showed 14°C at times but damp made it feel cold. Satisfying ride, though, with a few nice hills.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

First ride of the year in shorts. Was probably not quite warm enough but  had made the decision Friday when was sunny and warm. Very foggy for most of the ride. For those of an acme/MEMWNS persuasion led a friend for his first assent of TMNH, overtook lady and we had a little chat. She was on her fifth I think assent and had more to go.

Heard a wood pecker hammering away and then climbed above the fog into beautiful blue skys.

Tried the shorts first thing and quickly changed my mind. Longs were put on pronto. What a beautiful day for a ride. Glorious sunshine and photogenic lighting for the bucolic english landscape. Wonderful.

115K with my local cycling club, on their rather racingly named "100K Tourist Time Trial". Despite the event name sounding like a race, it was actually a pleasant social ride, with a cafe stop half way round!

101km round probably my favourite local ride, over the Dukes Pass and round Callander.

I love the Dukes Pass.  Beautiful.

I did a little 15 mile loop just for the sake of it.  What a lovely afternoon.  Came home in the soft light, it was like a promise of those summer evenings when you come home in the low light, the air kissing your skin, the smell of dust and hot tarmac, the good tiredness in your legs.

Words to de-rust even my internal corrosion. But as it is, I'm at work, sat at a desk in not too sunny room with my head in a Chinese casino in Phnom Penh (you don't really want to know about that).

Not really out, but round and round Calshot velodrome with LWaB and a group from work.  No-one crashed and it turned out not to be as cold as feared.

New Malden Velo intro ride yesterday, very relaxed as we nursed round a rider who may not have entirely understood what kind of riding the club do. Still, she made it round 40km and we all tried as hard as possible to make her feel welcome. Three other new riders joined us in what seemed like weather more suitable for mid May than Feb and a jolly good time was had by all!

Warmest February day on record; celebrated with 7 laps of the industrial estate - 30 miles.

A short circuit around the Durham Dales.
Cyclists scattered all over the North Pennines, standing by the road and taking their clothes off.
Views across to Great Dun Fell with the sun glinting off it - still on my "to do" list.....

Yes, a nice, sunny 25 miles.

Great day to be alive!

Well, it didn't start well. I was in a rush to catch my train, and came off on ice. Bloody ice! As Graeme said, how ironic to come off on ice on the hottest day of the year, after an incident-free overnight ride at the weekend.

Just road rash and an annoying tear in my favourite jacket, thankfully.

The rest was fabulous. Around the Wolds with quite a lot of offroad, and endless sunshine.

Too ironic! But good that the rest was fabulous.

Set out yesterday to add a further loop to my coffee-shop run & take in a forest road I'd much enjoyed last year. I was inexplicably tired before starting, though, and contrary to my expectations I didn't feel better with distance. Maybe I shouldn't have taken the hilly route 10k in, but I  reckoned that the effort would wake me up a bit: it didn't, and at ~35k in I jacked it in. I'd set out with quite a strong NE wind at my back, too, and the thought of adding more distance to fight it on the way back home helped with the decision.

Getting home was murder, and after a shower and a quick lunch I stretched out and slept for two hours. Still knackered this morning, and it's a beautiful windless day.

Older ≠ wiser.

I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Weird. My fault, probably - working now?

I couldn't get out on the bike earlier in the week to enjoy the sunshine because of work / family commitments, so a little 30 mile circuit today.  Still mild for February with no discernible wind, but increasingly misty so I was starting to get damp by the time I got home.   Also a chance to test out my new gear changers, the twist grips that I had been using on this bike were quite old and losing their 'spring', so swapped to some new rapidfire type thingies.  They seem to work well, even on the front where there is a big difference between the two chainrings so it was quite hard to change back up onto the big ring with the twist grip.  Coffee and biscuits at the river bank in Durham City, my favourite picnic spot with views of the cathedral and castle.

Sunshine approaching from the South.

First time in 1,000 years.

Went for a trundle round the lanes to the South West of York. Out through Healaugh and Wighill to Tadcaster, then on round Bolton Percy, Appleton Roebuck, Acaster Selby and Acaster Malbis, back into York through Bishopthorpe. About 41km in (mostly) the sun with a bit of a breeze blowing as well.
Born to ride my bike, forced to work! ;)
