I've walked a few of these; at least one is supposedly haunted. Fantastic places; you really feel like you've died and come back to life at the other end.

Those aren't tunnels, they are portals.

You will hear the Ood sing....
It is simpler than it looks.

Catesby tunnel is a good place for Ood; the dripping water sound makes effective imaginary voices; amd because it's 1.7 miles long there is plenty of scope for leaping out at you from dark corners especially on your own.

Scary Railway Tunnel Story;

4 Railway Ramblers were walking one of the disused lines between the Valleys in S Wales; it was getting late and they hoped that a certain tunnel would be open as it was a long trek over the top; in the end it was and they set off. About half way through they saw 4 young boys with sooty faces sitting along one wall, looking unflinchingly into their torchlights. A few hundred yards later they heard the echo of screams from where they had just been but did not hang about and walked swiftly to the other end.

Several young boys were killed in the construction of the tunnel.
