Surely the ride to PBP started sometime last year ;D ;D
But not Talybont on Usk cafe I paid £4.44 for a coffee & cake there today!
The 'awkward' level crossing near Bedale. Or perhaps that's just me.
Elmley Moor Tower could be Huddersfield ? not Wakefield ?

No, that's Holme Moss. Emley Moor is def. nearer Wakefield
Ferrybridge power station, and the new(ish) A1/M62 interchange, are truly things of beauty. Especially at night.Glew's Garage in Goole ;D

You have a remarkable eye for romantic scenery.

Hate to disagree with you, chap, but Emley Moor is Huddersfield.
Has a WF postcode, but is nearer Huddy (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Emley+Moor,+Huddersfield,+United+Kingdom&aq=0&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=34.313287,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Emley+Moor,+Huddersfield,+United+Kingdom&ll=53.618987,-1.660309&spn=0.200791,0.617294&z=11)

I've visited 3 of the stations on the RHDR about two dozen times;
never on a train
+2 for Dalmeny church hall. Did my first 600 from there in 05. Mark Shannon's 3 Firths.
What about Beattock village hall ! Tom Hanley's start and finish for his classic 400 Ower the Edge.

Non-control, significant Welsh Audax places which are significant to me:
It looks odd without a lone sheep next to it, but I spy 3 further up the hill.

That's quite a significant place for me, the red arrow is drawn right through my old house in Marple Bridge.
That's rather spooky.
Not sure why it's significant in Audaxing (except that it's a fair old honk to get out of Marple Bridge on a bike)
The 24-hour BP garage in Newtown, Powys.
So many of the places listed on this thread are just soul-destroying pits of misery that just happen to be open at stupid o'clock. That doesn't make them significant, just available................

You can get to Membury Services by CAR ??
Having rarely ridden in Scotland, never in Kent, never having done any Denmead rides, never been to Rosies Cafe, never been near Elmley Moor Tower this thread leaves me a bit cold.

Let me run this one by you: How many events start or turn at Chepstow?

To me, the pair of bridges into Brest is a special place.
To a tired, hungry, busting-bladdered randonneur, a motorway service station is an oasis of relief, shelter and refreshment. Simple comforts are so much better appreciated by the AUK-in-extremis than by motorists in transit.I made a quick stop on the M1 yesterday (as a passenger). My driver commented that these services were very cramped, had too short an entry-slip, yada yada ...
These places are dreadful when motorised but somehow more attractive when cycling.

Was it Lee Shale who was sat outside waiting for them to open when you came along and banged on the door demanding tea?
The two Great Attractors for Southern English rides are New Alresford and Lambourn, though I'm not aware of any (?) audaxs that control at Lambourn itself. Lots and lots and lots of routes seem to go through/near it though.

It's one of the few services with no barriers on its non-motorway entrances. It's the unofficial M4 jn14.5, used by everyone in Lambourn.
Thorne - I seem to end up there with alarming frequency. Nothing wrong with the place; I'm just baffled as to why it's so often en route.

I think it's tied up with the three old Santa Auks living nearby.

This is mostly due to DIYs though, unless our senior member are into mind control...

Was that from the High Peak Trial when Jim Hopper got frostbite in his fingertips?
I think so. I got a puncture halfway up Snake, and while I was mending it Sheila was fantasizing about doing something unrepeatable with a nearby sheep.
But my main memory is of Rikki Goode trying to stir his mug of coffee with two hands, and failing messily.

Brilliant
There was a "do" in the church on one occasion, so I have stopped off for a cup of tea and piece of cake.

There is a 24-hour garage in Wales?!?!?
+1 to any El Supremo lay-by stop

Was you invited, or did you just gatecrash?

Ah, the nostalgia which strikes when you pass the mysteriously bare place where one of Those once was!
