It's almost impossible to get a rude word on Squaredle
My boy has managed to look at the source and decrypt the list of banned and inapproriate words that Squaredle uses. I could learn a lot by going throught them one-by-one. ('Octoroon' anyone? 'Reffo'?) Many appear to be racially abusive terms. The banned ones start "abos amakwerekwere arse" and the inappropriates end with "wang wank wanker wankier wankiest wanky wench whore willy" (which sounds in parts like a latin noun declension). Also, I can understand why "welch" would be in the banned list, being offensive to the Welsh, but not "welsh".
I don't know why there are separate lists for banned and inappropriate nor why some qualify for one list rather than the other. There are around 800 words in total but some occur in both lists.
Being engulfed by rude words reminded me a bit of the couple of times I was responsible at DVLA for generating the VRMs for the 6-monthly new registration VRMs, allowing for the list of 'offensives' - ie patterns and strings - provided by the business, so as to avoid their creation.
*He can also give himself unlimited reveals, and, I think, see the list of the day's valid words. I've not asked him to show me how to do either of those things.
