A reminder in the times of Trump, Brexit, and assorted terrormonkeys, that some humans can still do some seriously, breathtaking, awesomely cool shit. It may be wrong to wish on space hardware, but what the hell.

I hope it didn't land on any Saturnians.

How did it operate so long without breaking down?  Presumably none of it was made by the people who make laptops and none of its software was by Microsoft?

Bits did break down. They sent software patches and worked around it.

None of it had to put up with browsing the internet and installing shite every day. Stable environment.

It probably used low-component-density ICs, too, 'cos radiation. Robust thingies that go on for ever.

It's very impressive but I reckon Opportunity beats it. Nearly 14 years trundling around Mars - a decidedly grubbier place than space around Saturn.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

I recall hearing one of the people who worked on the Voyager probes talking about the tiny memory & how much he'd want to increase it to on a new version, many years after the originals.

His number was so small that it astonished his interviewer. The Voyager bloke said that he didn't want too much because they needed to know absolutely everything about every piece of software installed, & if they had more people might be tempted to use it.
