Thanks all.  Bivvying out on the fells with a camera has been on my ToDo list for ages, so I'm glad I struck lucky with the sunrise when I finally got around to it.  Alpkit Hunka bivvy bag FTW

Have you filtered those pictures Bill?

Nope, no filters involved.  That's pretty much how it was at the time.  Yeah, I know, I know.

Taken with my 2010, £49 Canon A495.

It's now held together with rubber bands and lives it's life in the sweaty rear pocket of a cycling jersey but it's documented much of my cycling over the previous 5 years.

It's no good having a good camera if it's left at home.

Canon make/made some great wee cheap cameras.  I had an A490IS a few years ago that did great service before I gave it away.

Shot in the studio last week - I've been busy recently and finally catching up with editing some personal work this weekend:

Shot with a lovely crisp 135mm portrait lens and a stonking great big Elinchrom Octa for some seriously gorgeous beauty light  :D

I went out to photograph a field of poppies but the farmer seems to have mowed them all down.

On my way back I noticed the sun was just breaking through an otherwise cloudy sky and bagged a few photos.  Ideally I'd have gone into the field but I couldn't spot a gap in the barbed wire so I took the wimps option and zoomed in instead.

Fullerton, Hampshire. Looking towards Andover.

I shoot everything in Canon RAW now (sometimes RAW + JPEG). Apart from slowing down the frames/sec rate there's no reason not to shoot in RAW, you just lose too much potential if you don't.

Then I tweaked everything in Camera Raw app (Canon supplied) then I tweaked it a bit more as a Photoshop Jpeg.

Original (pretty "Meh" isn't it?).

Someone is bound to say that it's cheating HOWEVER ........

1) I don't care

2) Cameras just can't capture what the human eye sees.  It's technically impossible.  All you can do is use the available tools to try to recreate what it felt like.

Trust me the actual scene I saw was a lot less "Meh" than the resultant original image and a lot more "Wow" like the final "cheating" version.

3) Every classic photo you ever saw, by any of the greats, was "shopped", either digitally or using darkroom techniques, to some extent.

You could probably design a camera to capture what the human eye sees, but the pictures would be fairly rubbish.  It's all in the processing.

Very nice but, try as I might, I just can't seem to spot her telephone number in the image !!!!

Very "Jessie J".

From today's ride:

This is Cleebourg. It sits in the middle of vineyards that stretch a couple of km up the road.  Used to belong to the Swedish crown.

Nasty showers all day, but not where I was.

Too true.  I can remember the clusterfuck in Norn Iron when he folded.  My bro-in-law worked for the firm that built the DMC works.

I still remember Barry Norman's comment when he reviewed Back to the Future: "The car that sniffs up the white lines from the middle of the road".

Now you mention it it does look like something from "Home Alone" or the "Road Runner" cartoons.

May be worth donning a hard hat before sliding open the barn door.

Had a 2 hour walk home and got back just before midnight.

Other photos appear in other threads, but there was a glove thing going on.

It was late and I was full of beer.
