Uphill, I couldn't get enough purchase, if that's the right word.

Top of the Tourmalet.  And it's done Ventoux, the Aubisque & the Aspin too over the years.

I do agree on the downhill though - I didn't dare descend any of those on it.

I used to do about 30 miles a day commuting on mine when I worked in Lunnun

Mine's in the shop being professionally fettled at present.
As regards "Brompton as n+1", I would consider this only if n <= 1.  If I had to cull my bikes one by one, the brompton would be next-to-last to go.  Or possibly the last.  Depending on how good my Windcheetah had behaved recently.

I like a fast, stiff ride.

Don't we all?

Actually I prefer it slow and bumpy

Is that because small wheels make it twitchy ?

PS.  MV.  I'm going to keep the photo of you, on the continent, in socks and sandals, and produce it as evidence for the defence should you ever criticise my Gilet.

Some more pictures, now I've finally got round to downloading mine:

Charlotte decides she does need a frothing pint of beer

City Hall

Our wheel's bigger than their wheel

The view from our hotel window included the Crown pub

But if you looked the other way, there were people abseiling down our window!

Dinner was at Stormont Castle, which was ver' posh indeed

And for those who could bear to drag themselves away from the cross-toasting, there was a lovely view over Belfast from the window

A break in the sunshine on Sunday's ride

Phil Nelson (I think) inspects his forearms

The Brommie Club were out in force

On Sunday, there was an Orange parade.  Nobody apart from the Obvious Tourists cared.

We stopped for a picture of the mural before we went

Presumably with Barry White in the background?

I enjoyed the camping tour of Norn Iron I did last year.  I ended up at Belfast YHA for the last day/night and had a good time walking around. A city I'd like to visit again. The Morning Star & John Hewitt http://www.thejohnhewitt.com/ are recommended hostelries.

It is a bit "different" when you ride out of the ferry port and the first thing you see is tower blocks covered with murals of masked men with guns.

And I'll see your Orange march and raise you a load of chaps in black balaclavas at a very well attended march in Youghal in Southern Ireland.  Kept my mouth well shut on that occasion!
