In Our Time... weekly dose of intelligent discussion and old-fashioned wireless.

The Friday Night Comedy podcast is good, especially when The News Quiz is in season.

There's also a good cycling one called The Bike Show, presented by Jack Thurston on Resonance FM - it's the sort of thing podcasts are brilliant for. A niche subject on a radio station nobody would ever listen to but it can be listened to around the world.

All available through iTunes.

The podcast for this year's Dun Run sounded as if the presenter was smoking dope  :)  Maybe they're all like that.

Dan Carling's Hardcore History

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I've just listened to the VeloCast for the first time. I was doing DIY with solvents at the time, but I think I'll be subscribing.

Answer Me This - a mixture of erudition and smut which should go down well with some around here.
In Our Time
Off the Ball (the BBC Scotland one, not the Irish one)
The Onion Radio News & The Onion News Network (video)
Old Jews Telling Jokes (video)
The Bike Show
Guardian Science weekly
Scientific American
The Word
Robert Llewellyn's Car Pool (video)
The Bugle

plus various German and Italian Language podcasts

Kermode & Mayo's film reviews
Collings & Herrin
Adam & Joe
As It Occurs To Me (Richard Herring topical stand-up show)
In Our Time
This American Life (really well done and interesting documentary type stuff)
The News Quiz (I delete The Now Show & IGTWTCITN immediately when they come on)
Vintage Tooncast (classic cartoons that are now out of copyright so free)
David Mitchell's Soapbox (not current but still downloadable)

I also like the Smithsonian Folkways shows on iTunes U - not strictly podcasts but more or less.

Never heard of The Bike Show - can see I'll have to investigate it. And some of those Radio 3 ones sound good. And I really like the sound of Answer Me This.

I've been trying the Precious Little podcast recently but I'm not really smitten - it's a poor man's Collings & Herrin. Likewise, I tried Phill Jupitus & Phil Wilding's Perfect Ten but it seems to be just lots of swearing for swearing's sake.

MTBCast - mountain bike racing commentary (american), currently covering the Tour Divide and Great Divide races.

I also used to get the 6music Adam & Joe podcast, but Joe's off doing other things at the moment and Adam on his own isn't as funny.

I listened to a few Two Johns podcasts - but in the end found them annoying.

Since my earlier post on this topic, I've discovered the totally and utterly brilliant Radiolab - each podcast is a collection of loosely themed and endlessly fascinating reports on anything and everything. Funny, moving, occasionally mind-boggling.

Here are links to some of my favourite episodes:
Limits (includes a fantastic story about the Race Across America)
New Normal
Parasites

They also do occasional video podcasts. This one is beautifully poignant:

I've just discovered this radio downloader and it looks like it will transform my listening habits.  I can fit two Afternoon Theatres into a standard daily commute, or Two Hancocks and an Ed Reardon.

Radio Downloader allows you to easily download radio station content.

It brings Podcast-like abilities to stream downloading, as well as handling Podcasts. This gives you the convenience of being able to subscribe to regular downloads of your favourite programmes, which you can then listen to on your pc or mp3 player.

Radio Downloader is supported on Windows 7, Vista and XP, and is freely available for your personal use under the GPL.

I'm using this too, since the BBC changed the iplayer slightly so my old prog didn't work. As long as you only want BBC progs, it's been good for the last few weeks, and I can contiune listening to the 6music funk & soul show on the commute.

I'm enjoying Radiolab, thanks citoyen.

Via "the spokesmen" I've just added two new podcasts to my downloads:
 - The sofaboy chronicles, which has been interviews by John Galloway. Having mourned the loss of the velocast it was good to hear him again.
 - Veloclub Don Logan, which is quite amusing and the most recent one is a long interview with Graham Obree, who was very interesting.

Ramblings and the similar ones on Radio 4. Very relaxing to listen to on trains :)

For any adam & joe fans, I found  fan site with all of their 6music show podcasts on which I'm gradually working through on the commutes.

Adam & Joe

Let me add to this

Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio (Quite simply the quickest-witted person I have ever heard.  He has comedy Tourettes i think).

Dave Gorman on Absolute

7-Day Sunday with Chris Addis

Fighting Talk (if you like sports and a giggle)

Stephen Fry (if he ever gets around to recording them)

I like to save a few podcasts up and use them on DIY weekends to make paint-stripping and the like something to look forward to.

Ooh! I've listened to quite a few of those already but there are loads I haven't. Excellent!

My son has started getting into Adam & Joe recently, so I'll forward that link to him too.
