I've been stuck here in Lichfield looking after my dad since friday, but tonight he seems quite well so I've snuck out.  I'm currently in a lichfield pub, with my first pint of the weekend.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Today I took Mrs sB's car to KwikFit because a tyre valve was leaking.  They changed the valve for no charge and I'm not even a customer, I might be in the future.  Gave 'em a fiver for the tea kitty.

Started my new job in Preston yesterday. So far I like it - I have gained an hour a day due to travelling a shorter distance, everyone is really nice there and last night I actually felt like a pootle when I got back to mother in laws. It was fantastic to travel along the seafront of St Annes and Lytham getting my bearings and enjoying being out. I even found the local library and joined  :D

There's a Wren nesting in the tree in the office garden.
I can hear the skylarks singing once again on my way to work.
There are lambs in the fields as well, doing their spring heeled thing.
I've been able to dispense with the longs and the heavy winter clobber this week.
I've got _lots_ of food in my sandwich bag today _and_ it's nearly the weekend.

How do you do it.  Please, give me a few clues.  Someone told me to ensure my DR was on my passport and I would be (almost) automatically upgraded!  But I can't remember if titles are on them any more and ift they are, I've not been upgraded yet!!

My good news.  I am chairing a national conference committee.  Well sort of good news and sort of scary!

How do you do it.

1. Be early.
2. Don't dress scruffily (but there's no need to be in a suit). The only scruffy people who are in Business are the rock stars that have paid to be there.
3. Be a member of their frequent flyer programme (even if you've only just joined and got the basic level one)
4. Be happy and smiley at checkin.
5. Don't ask to be upgraded, they'll only say no. Hint at it but ask a different question straight away: "I hope there's a chance of being upgraded as I'm a bit tired. Is the flight busy today?" That way they don't have to say no to being upgraded.
6. Be happy and smiley to them as you've checked-in and walk off.

A combination of those have worked more than 50% of the time for me.

I don't know! The last few upgrades I've been given rather than requested, I check in on-line and have been upgraded in the lounge or on board. I think that being a frequent flyer and flying every week probably helps otherwise do as Greenbank says

I found a crisp £10 note in a plastic bag at the back of our kitchen cupboard yesterday.

I spent some of it on delicious lentil curry ingredients :)

Any chance of posting the recipe to 'Food and Drink'?
