Cannot commute at all this week :-(

Mrs F is away all week for work, so I need to stay back and get the kids off to skool.
No time then to ride in.

( I normally leave at 0600 if I'm riding in. )

I'm not cycling tomorrow.

currently it's blowing a 30mph gusting to 53mph westerly. My job lies west.

When deciding that gusting wind makes the journey by bike too risky I should remember that the return by public transport will take six times as long and that it's quicker to walk the eight miles.

Got a beauty of a chest infection. GP wanted to sign me off, but have too much to do before Xmas for any of that.

I discovered that 17 loaves of bread - a kg of marg and a 5lbs of jam won't fit in a Barley plus rackpack alongside my lunchbox. Someting was going to have to give and it wasn't going to be the lunchbox (it's our annual toaster testing session).

What do you need the lunch-box for?

Having commuted 23 miles a day with 1300 feet of struggle almost every working day since April 2009 I woke up this moring and thought 'feck this I'm taking the car I'm burnt out.'

My cycling mojo has departed  :-[  I am tired, so bloody tired I could cry.

Andy, I was starting to feel like that, worn out, CBA,  when I fell off last week. TBH, I'm enjoying a couple of weeks off the bike, but I'm now starting to look forward to getting out again. I'm sure you'll feel the same in a few days (and you didn't even have to fall off  ;) ).

As some of yon Englandshire folk say, you'll be reet.
(I've no idea what that means, but it sounds encouraging.)
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

There's a lot of that about at this time of year - but in less than 2 weeks it'll be getting lighter. Lay off yourself and keep the commuting run down a bit meantime- part way by car or just don't bike it every day?

Thanks to all, especially Eck, for the words of support and advice.  Going to take the computer off my commuter and take a less challenging route for next week, stop chasing the figures.  Fortunately I then have 3 weeks off over Xmas and NewYear so I plan to take a break, grab some R&R and look forward to 2012.  As some may know I ride as an alternative to taking medication for depression (PTSD) so not riding for a prolonged period is not a realistic option for me.

I'd cycle commute, but my bicycles are several thousand miles away, and to get to the Space Science Laboratory, I'd have to cycle a couple of miles of one in ten!  Even in a car, it's a moderately challenging drive, my anicent 1.2L Corsa would probably die after a couple of days of trying to get up it!  A lot of San Francisco doesn't seem to be for the faint hearted cyclist.
Actually, it is rocket science.

...I was supposed to go to the dentist who is in the opposite direction to work.   So to "save time" I was going to drive there and then shoot up the motorway to work.  But the dentist phoned me at 9am saying the appointment was off as the dentist was ill.  But I came to work in the car anyway to "save time".

Why do people drive to work in cars exactly?  Yes it was nice and warm and dry but tedious and nerve wracking

.. my winter longs were still wet from the washing machine. Seeing the weather get wetter and stay so cold throughout the day, and also finding out I had a dose of the squitsn  told me that bottling out today was probably a good thing.

Heavy chest cold and irritating cough plus headache suggests I should really be in bed. However, tyhe workload requires me to go in anyway.
Bummer, but I'll take the train and stay warm and regret not taking the bike.

just too tired.  I keep waking up every few hours, which is not conducive to proper rest - and it's been going on for weeks!  I hated using the tube, but as I left home late I had the small consolation of a half empty train.

I appreciate this may be blasphemy, but have you tried cutting down on caffeine/not drinking it after a certain time…it helped when I had the same problem, although was initially painful.
