Imagine the first episode of Heroes, remade with David Lynch directing

You've sold it to me. First series of Heroes was great, but it went downhill very rapidly after that.

This Unit has just watched S03E01 of "Broadchurch", which looks like it might develop nicely.  Anything with Olivia Colman in it has to be watched anyway.

She is totally wonderful at "everywoman" in the same way Kevin Spacey and Tom Hanks play "everyman".  I can breathe a sigh of relief and relax, knowing it's in safe hands.

Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Enjoyed S3Ep1. Never watched series 1 or2. Not sure why, except for an inherent pessimism about ITV dramas.

There were a few references to S1 & 2 plotlines, but we coped - I hope that situation continues.

[I did think it was a little ... fortuitous when they found the bits of evidence while briefly searching, just on a hunch, a billion acres of mansion house grounds. But I don't watch these things for perfect plot probabilities, so that's fine!]

Annoyed that I missed the first two episodes of the new series of Inside No.9 but I saw the thirdsecond episode this week.

Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton are sick fucks. But also geniuses. Totally brilliant. Will have to catch up with the first two eps on iplayer.

Potentially Arena: Alone with Chrissie Hynde on BBC 4 at 2100.

Thought I'd catch up with that on i-player. Gave up after 20 minutes. She is so dull.  Huge disappointment.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

Period detail nostalgia aside, did you think it was any good?

I didn't.

Yes, it was a bit boring wasn't it?

I'm sort of liking it but don't like the message that having Cracker's DS Penhaligon playing Jane Tennison's Mum is sending me, which is that I am Old.

I was being polite. I actually thought it was terrible. The acting was OK but I suspect the script was written by a computer. Probably a ZX Spectrum.

I just watched ep. 2.  Would the uniformed rozzers really be using a 1966 Rover in 1973?

For me the first episode was accompanied by a commentary from my wife enumerating the anachronisms, eg "But Maida Vale wasn't posh in 1973!"

I didn't watch the second episode.

I know it jars a bit when they get these things "wrong" but...

You are watching an fictive portrayal of imaginary events, i.e. an grate big fat lie, and in order to make this lie more believable an certane amount of smoke, not to say mirrors, must be employed.  However the purveyors of this lie not having an unlimited amount of money for smoke, mirrors or other devices of mass distraction expect you, a willing participant in the lie, to focus not on the set dressing but on the lie itself AKA "the story".

Besides for stuff set in the 1970s you've got the almost insuperable problem that any* motor vehicle built in the 1970s is now a smear metal oxides in the mud of a scrapyard somewhere so you're going to have to use whatever you can get your hands on that's not completely anachronistic.

*May contain traces of exaggeration.

I was actually looking for post-1973 vehicular crimes, like the VW Polo in "All You Need Is Cash", when I noticed the plate on the Rover.  How hard would it have been to make up some false plates for the filming?  Tch!

Although I'd still have noticed it was a pre-1970 facelift car because radiator grille ;D

Typically the main failing of cars in period films is that they are all concourse condition, having been sourced from car enthusiasts and motor museums.

My memory of cars in the early '70s was "Harvest Gold"*,  rust and wire coat-hanger aerials.

*Harvest Gold was a sort of summation of the 1970s in just one colour, being a blend of brown, orange and cream (the constituent colours of all young boys' stripey tank-tops).

Beige is my main memory of the '70s.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.
