People have differing needs along a long ride. I'd like to see what people think will 'hit the spot' for them.

Some folk will only know what they want as they approach a control...

Rice pudding. Not sure why anything else is needed.

At what point do you like your rice pudding?

I DRANK it at the end of the Great Eastern 1000km but hadscant interest in it earlier.

Personally If I get to the point where I don't feel I can eat anything else I can always eat rice pudding.
Not sure about consistency, drinkable not necessarily a problem but should be at least fairly viscous. Runny, no.
Another theory: I think it's not so much the distance that causes indigestion as night riding. I don't normally get it on daytime 300s but on that one through cheshire to newtown at night that stops at dinkys diner I couldn't eat anything - with anything fatty like bacon being the least appealing. But could have easily ate rice pudding. Did manage some fruit though.

Depends on the brevet. 80k in isn't much so, assuming I had had adequate food before starting I'd be after patisseries & coffee.  I'm a glutton for croissants when I'm allowed them, i.e. when I'm cycling. Flan - a bit like a custard tart - is good too.

In the absence of a good feed pre-start I'd be looking for friands, the French equivalent of sausage rolls.  The bakeries will microwave them for you.

On PBP I had banana/chocolate sandwiches along for the 70k mark.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I've become somewhat addicted to Mini Cheddars as a source of audax sustenance, as I can eat them even when my stomach is all over the place. Similar salty crackers or toast can hit the spot. Normal crisps, less so.

From a recent bike ride I have just ridden on, I'd say flapjack & pro-plus.

Rice pudding & fruit gets my vote, after the first 3 controls I was fed up of the same old pasta/rice or spud option, later, if it could be eaten(*), then it was in trouble!

(* and wasn't food of the devil, mushroom, cucumber etc...)
