I wrote on this thread a year ago about me going to an xmas party where I fainted. I hadn't fainted before and didn't find any reason why. I saw my GP and had blood test done, etc. The GP said that if this happens again we will need to look into it more and maybe stop me driving and cycling. Anyway, I have had no problems all year until I went to exactly the same party last night. I had stuffed my face with the party food and was stood talking when I became light heading and went down. I didn't drop as suddenly as last year and when I came round I was on my hands and knees. I knew that after eating the junk party food my blood sugar was high and maybe put it down to that, just like last year. I was thinking about it again today and just before fainting I was telling a guy about what happened to me last year. Did I talk myself into fainting?

Had you gone from sitting to standing, or made any sudden change on body position?

I get that occasionally, and can go light headed when standing up quickly.  Seems to be postural hypotension, which is not uncommon in fitter individuals with a low RHR. Essentially the BP doesn't catch up quick enough when you make those changes in posture.

Resulted in an ambulance when this happened shortly after my T1D diagnosis in case I was going into a massive hypo, even though the symptoms are completely different ::-)

Hmmm. I suppose dentists do have a rather more direct approach.  Fed up with doc piling platitude on conjecture and doing SFA, though.

The approach I hate the most is the, "Yes well, at your age - normal wear and tear - to be expected"

Just get me back on my bike!!!!!!

I know my measly 5 - 6000 km pa is nothing here, but it does seem to impress the GP.

Actually, I'm probably more in need of a psychiatrist than a GP to get me riding more atm.   :(

Hah. A chum who had apparent narcolepsy visited a sleep specialist who thought that anyone cycling 100 km in a day needed to see a psychiatrist, 20 km being enough for anybody. When chum laughed in his face he got shirty and threatened to stop him driving.  It turned out that the "narcolepsy" was caused by GP prescribing two different antidepressants at the same time.

Why is the slang for psychiatrist trick-cyclist?

My lurgy is the office lurgy. At least 20 of us have the same thing - we all started with a nasty hacking cough on Friday night which continued all through Saturday, Sunday we all started to sneeze, and have headaches, Monday was a mixture of all of it with the coughs becoming productive, and today we're all weak, dizzy, hoarse, shivery and snotty. Something in the water, or David Cameron trying to kill us all off?

You've actually just made me think. This winter (so far) we've had just about no bugs going round the office, for the first time since I started working here seven years ago.

I don't think that it's coincidence that this is also the first winter in our shiny new Portakabin Office building, rather than the condemned, damp and dingy old one

No, I had been standing and chatting for a few mins. I'm still going with the idea that i may have talked myself into it. I was telling somebody all about what happened last year. I remember when I came round (this year) my biggest worry was other damage had I done. When I collapsed last year I hurt something in my chest which was quite painful for the following two weeks.

Off work again today. Was really struggling yesterday, without stick I would have fallen several times on the way home. Weaving down the corridors at work, I'm sure some people think I'm drunk.

After about 4 hours in a dark room got up and fired up the computer. Then managed to impress myself with how much work I got through, despite a distinctly weirded out head. Still counts as a 'sick' day, though.

The doc may have me in the 'managed' pigeonhole, but taking a day off sick every 2-3 weeks can't go on forever. Wish I'd been eligible for the company's standard bupa scheme now, despite the cost.

People don’t take time off sick with colds, flu or sick bugs where I work. They bring them in and spread them round. Frequent sickness absence is justification for written warnings.
In order to keep a ‘clean record’, the people sit at their desks sneezing, coughing, blowing their snotty noses and run to the lavvy when needs must.

Partner has caught cold from someone who said would not give him their cold.
He is feeling sorry for himself and FURIOUS.
I might be mildly affected but I suffer little from these things.

Wondering how long I need keep wearing these lenses which are giving me a sore left eye till I query them with Weird-Optiquack... They've added a prism to the left eye but it's actually sore... I think I want a refund if these don't work.

Last pair in October ffs only took 1 day of discomfort and they were fine the next day...

:(

It really shouldn't take long (although your adaption might be slower than mine).
Go back and get them to check, methinks. Lenses are dear.

I am no optic/ophthalmic expert but I'd imagine a prism adds a huge pile of adaptive strain on the eye muscles compared to plain refractive tweaks.

I don't always do refractive tweaks quickly but prisms presumably shift the focal point...

Internet optometry websites seem to suggest two weeks, problem is that hits right into Xmas :(  I think I'll give it till Friday and email Mr Weirdo even though I really don't want to :(  I'm rapidly running out of tolerance for "trying things out" and don't really want more meddling with my vision as my last lenses are definitely OK...

One issue is going to be getting a refund for these if their dodgy (and I really don't trust the guy) or making work pay for it anyway which I think they should on principle as I hadn't urgently needed behavioural optometry advice before newofficeTM.

Feel like I'm pouring money down the toilet along with sanity and getting nothing but eyestrain for my efforts.

Kim sorted them when I first started wearing them and they're as straight on my face as my face gets... Think it's just bear it out for a few more days and then either email the dodgy optiquack or revert back to other spex and run away very fast...

Well things are not improving. I've even taken the step of saying so to the company HR department and asked for help (in a roundabout way).

MrsC, consulting DrGoogle (yes, I know, bad idea) came across this:
http://www.migrainetrust.org/research-article-basilar-type-migraine-2012-15147

Now I was told by the consultant that they are trying 'diagnosis by treatment'; in other words, they are going to try common treatment regimes for vestibular migraines and see if they work. They aren't. I've been in a bad way since Saturday with almost no letup.

So I'd say the diagnosis is negative. Basilar migraines actually match my symptoms more closely, and wouldn't be 100% sorted by the drugs I've been taking.

MrC.

Have you investigated some accupunture treatment?

No and I'm loath to experiment.

Edit - I have a colleague who has severe migraines of the classic type. She is getting acupuncture and finding it is helping.

At this stage I want more investigation and less experimentation.

Ditto. I totes get you on the experimenting and unclue...  Hope you are able to get some more sensible answers soonest!

I was made to try acupuncture for vertigo issues in my teens, if anything I found it made me worse and I have refused to have anything to do with it since as I don't honestly think it is credible enough to be worth the effort and risks.

waking up and suddenly a heart rate around 130 bpm, or more! Muscles tensed and totally aware of it. could be 5 minutes or 50 minutes, I can't figure that part of it,  and, when it's calmed down, the rest of the day is a new and mighty headache, aching arms and legs. I have vague memories in my head of Adrenal and Cortisol stuff. I will try and see doctor as this has been 3 days in a row and I'm starting to get worried.
Anybody got an idea of what it might be?

Not really but needs urgent investigation.
Hope you get sorted soon!
