Title: Climbing
Post by: rob on 24 August, 2019, 01:31:36 pm
I’m showing a bit over 40,000ft of climbing.  I know my 1030 has a habit of over reading but a mate with a Wahoo is showing similar.

What has everyone else got ?

11.412 meters (Garmin 530; start at 17:30 and finish at 01:50, in case barometric variations play a role)

I get just over 12,000m for the 1200km, so 10m per km, which is fairly average for my riding. neither flat nor hilly, just rolling.

I didn’t check this time but they used to quote 10,000m so that’s 20% more ?

PBP used to be quoted as climbing the height of Everest last century. I suspect some of the increase comes from the measurement methods employed and some from route changes.

The climb/fall and overall climb is given on the PBP web site. Their figure is 11,835m.

I felt like the return route to Loudeac was more hilly than before. Imagination? There were a couple of big descents that I can't recall from previous editions.

my Garmin GPSmaps 64s counted 11.834 meters of climbing. Strava, which ignores the device's altitude data and uses its own elevaltion model, says 10.200 meters.

No, afraid not: the return section (9) Carhaix to Loudéac had a different route to 2015* - in particular the roads to Le Quillio through St-Thélo had the steepest climbs and descents + the twistiest and roughest roads of the whole event. Very pretty, but not entirely appreciated coming 3/4 way through a 1200km!

* I should add "as I remember" - which is hardly definitive!

My Wahoo's barometer/temperature sensor started playing up mid ride, so I've recorded 510536m of climbing.

I've got warranty details to send them, a load of correct elevation buttons to press and a refund at the Ibis Budget to sort out as well as all my washing/unpacking.
urgh.
