Your favourite flavoured crisps?
« on: 14 April, 2010, 02:08:38 pm »
Why is it so hard to get a good old skool packet of crisps in a pub these days?

You just want something normal, but you're offered "Spunk and coriander flavour" or "Sweet chilli and horse bollock flavour" or "Some shit I've never heard of but I assume pretentious middle class vegetarians eat flavour"

If I could only ever have one flavour of crisp again, I would have to go for salt and vinegar.

What's your chosen crisp?

Smoky BACON.

They taste neither of smoke nor BACON and indeed I shudder to think just what actually goes into them, but I'm fairly sure one of the ingredients is crack cocaine as they would otherwise not be as addictive as they are.

Salt & pepper and the crisps should be still warm from cooking.

(But in a pub it will always be hairy pig nipples as snack of choice.)

Ready salted as they actually taste of potato rather than onion powder, garlic powder and milk powder in varying ratios.  A nice variation on this is salt and black pepper - you can usually get these in pubs as they are considered pretentious enough! :)

I like that in Austria, Croatia and (I think) Germany, the only flavours of crisps you can get are salted or paprika.

Salt & vinegar but i'm partial to some peanuts/cashews or proper pork scratchings (the ones with hairs) with a nice pint of bitter.

Ready salted.  But I like salt and vinegar in Walkers French Fries.  And if it's pringles it has to be sour cream and onion or salt and vinegar.  Marmite cashew nuts are perfect, but not crisps, obv.

This thread isn't "What is your favourite brand of pork scratchings?", but it would be a worthy one!  :P

Crisps?

Pah!

The accompaniment to real BEER has to be real pork scratchings or pickled eggs.

Crisps are for wusses who wear pink hats.

Plain 'ready salted'.  Preferably kettle chips or something decent, and especially not Walkers, which have switched to some sort of sinister genetically-modified sunflower oil that reduces your cholesterol by tasting horrid so you eat fewer crisps.

Salt and Vinager or Prawn Cocktail are quality flavours, but my favorite is Chilli Heatwave Doritos

I can't say I've seen those flavours. Must be drinking in the right sort of pubs. ;D

EDIT: For the purposes of the study, plain, "mature cheddar*" or "steak*" will do nicely, ta.
