My powers of observation never cease to amaze me!!.. Nowt wrong with this,no marks scrapes or scuffs, but I have no need and  it was a bit big to carry on the bike.

That is a bit bizarre! Although it does look like a fairly old one judging by the design and you are supposed to replace them after eight or so years, due to UV weakening or somesuch, so could be someone antisocial just threw it out there. The sadder possibility is it's a remnant of a crash. Oddly, the photo makes it look like it has no straps - which could confirm the crash possibility, it having been cut off by paramedics? - or were they just tucked inside?

straps were tucked inside.  Thought maybe Someone had broken down, or a chav had been pulled up??? Looked VGC if it was an old one, it was fiberglass,

They've been made of fibreglass for decades. It's the poppers to hold the visor down that make it look old to me, plus the general design and colourscheme - but quite likely they do still make them like that, I'm out of touch now. Thinking about it, the crash idea is even more unlikely if there are no scratches.

However it got there, you do seem to have a knack for finding unusual objects!

Spare helmet for passengers, poorly secured, survived the fall off the bike unscathed (perhaps by landing in the verge on a corner)?

Or removed to access something under it in the box and forgotten about, in the style of a thousand misplaced cycling gloves.

Doesn't have to be something sinister.

Good thinking, that Kim! It's also more likely that a spare helmet, not getting much use, would be older but still in good nick, so all fits together.

BP, are you riding round the local landfill site?   You seem to turn up all sorts of random things.

On the basis that life is basically an Infocom adventure, I suggest you take both and try "use CO2 inflater with balloons" next time you get stuck.

What are those capsules?

Who truly has no use of balloons?

And is that parsley?

The cannisters are Nitrous Oxide, and balloons are for filling with it, and then inhaling for a brief high. Quite popular with the yoof I believe m'lud.

So what legit use is there for Nitrous Oxide in weeney little cylinders like that?
It'll make your car go faster or, I believe, anaesthesize (sp) - but you'd need loads more than one of those cylinders can deliver.  ???

Those little cylinders are used for 'charging' the cannisters you get for doing whipped cream/foams. You can see the word 'cream' on the discarded box.

Yeah, nitrous oxide is insanely soluble in fats, which is how squirty cream works.

There was a party at my flat share once and a group took time off drinking to inhale the cannisters. By the look of it you needed a few to get a "hit", since muggins here had to clean it up.

So there was cream, the means whip it, and a balloon.

Sounds like an interesting roadside event.
