Bikejournal: recording tyre changes

In manage components on Bikejournal, how are you recording your tyre replacements?

Obviously I can add a tyre - what do I do with the one that has been removed? Do you delete them or simply keep them on the list? All I want to do is to see how long a tyre has lasted.

In addition, is there a handy way of noting punctures?

I use the tyre functionality to keep track of wheels/rims and also tyres.

When I put a new tyre on a wheel it I edit that tyre and change the "Distance since last service:" value back to 0km. The distance traveled field is not reset and will keep track of how far that rim has been used for.

So at the point of replacement I'll know how long/far that tyre has lasted, plus I can keep an eye on rim age.

For punctures I just put a comment in the Ride Description field of the journal entry for that ride. Not much of a problem with GP 4 Seasons :)

Thanks GB.

No, they are unbeatable in that respect: I did not have a single visitation when I used them. I may well go back to them at some point: so far it looks as if I'll be lucky to get 1000 miles on a Michelin Pro 3 before suffering a terminal cut.

Another nerd here - and I keep a record of chain replacements too.
Just bought 2 new SRams PC 1030. I only got 1500 miles from a Wippermann Connex -- but without Bike journal - I would not have realised that it was ONLY 1500
I was an accountant until I discovered Audax !!

I'm finding that the simplest way is just to "move" the tyre to "not in use". It remains visible in the tyre list with the total mileage shown. Add new tyres to the list.

Still not sure of the best way to record visitations.

Fit GP 4 Seasons. You won't have to bother then. :)

(P.S. I know posting this means I'll get a p*nct*r* on my way to 5-a-side tonight...)

I've put on a set of GP4000S. Fingers crossed. They are like a lighter version of the 4 Seasons - but the weight difference is small in the Carradice owner's scheme of things.

Lighter because they only have one Vectran layer (instead of two) and no dura-skin layer.
