Uses for old wool
« on: 29 December, 2016, 09:49:22 am »
Other than ultra posh merino bike cleaning rags?

Due to sharp elbows (does that make me middle classed?) I keep wearing our my merino tops at the elbow.  Base layers are fine as I can cut them down to short sleeves, but tops are a bit too thick to work as t-shirts.
Any thoughts what I can do with them?

In my experience merino doesn't work well as rags, old cotton t-shirts are much better.

What to do with them?

Darn the holes
Elbow patches
If you are/know a crafter they can be used in all manner of ways
Pipe lagging
Loft insulation
Small animal bedding
Leave one outside and let the birds pick at it for nesting material
"Penny for the guy, mister?"
Cut into strips and use as large plant ties

I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

My grate friend widow K***** unravels old jumpers and knits the yarn into fresh garments.

Stuff them into cushions, stitch them up, and donate them to the local animal rescue places.

Some U3A groups knit things for worthy causes.

Turn them into foot wraps. You wrap them round your socks for extra winter warmth. When in a pub unwrap them and heat by fire before rewrapping round feet to heading on in the cold.

Wool will compost well enough. I also made some shrunken wool tights into arm warmers.
