Tent Down
« on: 29 August, 2020, 10:13:47 am »
My Luxe Megahorn pointy tent suffered a snapped pole during last Tuesdays high winds.
We’d just pitched it at a site in woodhall Spa and felt rather smug about it as we’d done so while most people were either fighting to hold down their large family tents or were packing up and getting in their cars. No such fear from us as we’d used the same tent in worse weather last year in the Hebrides.
Then, about two hours after getting the tent up the main pole snapped in two.
I guess I could have scavenged a broom handle and made a splint with it and the zip-ties/electrical tape that I always carry however as my brother lives just 40 miles away I called for a rescue.

Now that I’m home I’ll write to Luxe Outdoors as hopefully they’ll send me a free replacement after hearing of the failure.

The photo below was taken the night before in rather more clement weather

:( Still, looks like you had a good camp for at least one day!

That’s a lovely tent. How is it for condensation?

You can also make a splint with bit of tree etc.

Or take it in shifts to stand up and hold the damn thing.

Really good, the height and well vented peak do a good job of keeping condensation at bay.

I would imagine that a Zefal XP4 would make a pretty good splint...

I was camping in my vango calisto 500 family tent. Its retry damn solid with old skool metal poles but was fearing for it Tuesday night. Didn't sleep much that night

You know my Surly touring bike has one of those stowed beneath it's top tube but I never thought of using it as a splint.

I could have done with one of those last year, had I known it existed. We were on a Scout event and needed a tent that vaguely resembled a pyramid :-)

I think Butterfly and Clarion have two that shape and Andrewc has another.
