Good shots.

There's lovely detail of the face.

Black cats can be absolute buggers to photograph, often you just end up with a black silhouette! That looks like it was quite dark, given how wide the pupils are, did you use an external light source, or just a lens with a very wide aperture? The relatively small depth of focus suggests a wide open lens, but the shadow and spot of light in the eyes suggests a bright light, so possibly you used both.

Hi TimO,

You're absolutely right. Moderately high ISO, fast glass, a speedlight held up camera left on low power and a good dose of patience. Pee-wee (the cat) was very timid so it's taken a couple of days to let her get used to her surroundings before cracking the camera out.

Some happy cat photos from early this morning.

When I got up I noticed a neighbour's cat, the magnificent Mikey, in the shed window.

He then came into the garden and whilst alternating between looking for prey and posing, managed to get a pumpkin seed on his back.
