I messed up my right index finger a bit, back at the start of Nov. It didn't get better. Very sore at the knuckle, when carrying a cup of coffee, pinching, extending up or typing. Thought it might be a bit of arthritis. Bit of a lump out of the side, towards the thumb. Lump is visible.

6 weeks on, it is getting worse. So I see the physio at work.

Not arthritis, joint space too well preserved. Either fracture of metacarpal that hasn't healed or torn transverse metacarpal ligament that isn't healing. Referral to hand surgeon/specialist.

Off to see the Dr this morning (for the second time, since the other dr didn't bother turning up, my 9:10am appointment was rescheduled for 11:30) for ongoing bowel crampy issues. Hopefully it won't be a repeat of last July, and ending up getting admitted for emergency bowel surgery to fix a twisted bowel...  ???

Sorry to hear this Brian, hope the hospital can find out what's wrong and get you fixed up.

Thanks everyone. X-Ray yesterday afternoon and kept in overnight. No follow up CT scan required this morning so discharged with a shrug from the surgeon, here's low residue diet to follow...  ???

Coincidence: my daughter's partner was just in hospital with severe colitis. He's on antibiotics & low-residue now, with a scan to follow.

Hope low residue diet sorts things out, bowels are tricky beasts.

Hopefully, barakta.  Doesn't look a particularly thrilling diet though :-/  :'(

Thanks Helly! Although according to the consultant, I'll need to be on this diet for ever and ever!  :(

I doubt your low-residue diet will be as strict or unbalanced as my pre-colonoscopy low-res work-up.

I think only very white food was allowed.

I hope you can fabricate interesting and nutritious dishes within your limits!

GWS!

Thanks Hellymedic.

I think I may see about getting a referral to the NHS nutritionist though.

My bum ankle was at it again yesterday.  I did around 20k pain-free, followed by ~45k where it hurt to varying degrees from mild to breath-stopping on virtually every pedal-stroke, and for the last 20-odd I had no pain at all. This continued into the evening, then I had one dart as I was climbing the stairs.

I say 'ankle' because I've had cartilage problems and hyaluronic acid injections in the joint before, but the pain currently seems to come from deep within the foot, and is of such short duration that it's over before I can really localize it.

It's a real pest. I have plans for this year.

That's an odd place to have an ankle.

Tuesday is my rest day, and therefore my worst day for steps. Since I'm working from home and I'm not playing 5-a-side all I really get is a 20 minute round trip walk to collect my daughter from school. I've done as few as 4000 steps on a Tuesday before (every other day averages ~13k or so).

In order to rectify this I'll be off later to take some stuff to the local recycling centre whilst I have an hour long work conference call (one of those ones where you say "Hello, it's X" and then 59 minutes later "Thanks, bye").

Steps is an anagram of pests. I had one of those asinine watches until I got sick of the fatuous congrats and put it back in the box.

Word to the wise: once you get fed up with it, sell the bloody thing on PDQ, 'cos if you just put it aside for too long the battery will autofuck and it'll become unsellable. DAHIKT.

I've got a Garmin 935 which I use to track my swimming, running and cycling. Keeping track of steps is a bonus and I find it useful to help point out the days when I am too sedentary.

Barakta makes good use of one of those to limit her daily steps to what her hips will tolerate.  Mostly.  Some contrivance required to stop it pestering her with goals and such[1].

Its main use is vibrating to tell her about stuff she otherwise wouldn't hear.  Because Women's Clothes Don't Have Pockets (And Even If They Did A Modern Phone Wouldn't Fit Properly).   An afterthought by the designers that knocks disability-specific technology into a hat.

[1] The best approach seems to be to set a goal that's an order of magnitude bigger than you're likely to normally achieve.  That way it mostly leaves you alone, while quietly despairing about your lethargy.

Physio wants me to have hydrotherapy... I've never had that before.

They seemed to think booking a BSL/English interpreter (cos hearing aids and humid hydro pools don't mix) would be straight forward. How much do I trust a terp will turn up? I'm screwed if they don't, as in can't access the session but it's a common issue my BSL using friends have a lot.
