Exped Synmat UL
« on: 23 August, 2013, 05:07:15 pm »
I've just sat down on my Exped Synmat UL and there was a crackling noise, then a _bulge_ appeared. The first signs of delamination on something that's about 14 months old and has had about 9 weeks total use.
Only  a 12 month warranty on the UL stuff as well :-(

Oh bother.  I'm sleeping on mine tonight. Should last more than 14 months.
Getting there...

You might want to double check that with your retailer.  Exped Synmat UL are meant to have a two year warranty on them. Mine was replaced and I am sure it was over 12 months old.

This is still bad news regardless.

I bought one this year for Mlle PB to use replacing a failed Downmat.   I still use our last remaining 'functioning' Downmat.   I cannot see me buying any more Exped mats given how they keep failing.

Very disappointing.  :(

Hi Andrew, yes I've been told its a 2 year warranty by someone else.,
It's not got any worse but I'll see if I can get a replacement before my next 2 week trip.

Same thing recently happened to my Downmat 7 UL.  It was 13 months old and I got a warranty replacement.  Pretty annoying though because this is the second downmat I've had this happen to and the UL had only been used for about a weeks worth of sleeping.  They must be forking out a huge amout of cash in warranty replacement costs.

Just spoken to the retailer Elite Mountain Supplies.   He's out of stock of the UL7 and won't be getting another delivery until October. He said he'd checked with the importer and other retailers as well.

He's sending me a UL 9 instead, for 80% of the price difference between the 2 products.

I'll send the old one back to Lyon.  I've already sent them an Exped pillow this week....

I'm currently sitting on a deflated Synmat 9. :-[

Unless I can find & fix the leak the next week of my camping trip could be a little uncomfortable..

It's staying up tonight. Possibly the one way valve was stuck open.
