Or build a hybrid with a mountain bike frame as I have the remains of a trek navigator with a bent frame and want to build it in to a ridgeback mountain bike frame that I have.
Is it possible? The problems I can see are the brake mounting posts being in the wrong place. The wheels fit (just).
But is it that easy to do?

Can you get calipers to fit?
Is it drilled?
-
It should work if you use disk brakes, but using rim brakes I would think that you're onto a loser.
I vaguely remember reading about an adaptor which fits to 559-sized posts and allows V-brakes to be used with 700c wheels, but the cost would probably exceed that of another SH frame.

Buying two of these (http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Mavic-Mavic-Caliper-Adjusters--Allows-ATB-frames-to-accept-700c-wheels--Each-12065.htm) will deal with caliper problem.
I used to ride 700C on a mtb frame using disc brakes. It was fast but remember not to pedal
when cornering, ground clearence was frightening low

Aye, that's what I was thinking of...
But like I said, for £50 you could probably buy another frame... :-\

No the frame is a non brake disk one and the wheels wouldn't accept the discs.

But aren't 700cc wheels bigger than Mountain bike wheels?

Very true.
So would I need a road frame or a hybrid frame?
-
I managed it - but I fitted drop bars and long-reach brakes similar to these (http://www.allterraincycles.co.uk/product/9760.html) - I'm not using them any more, and I might have them knocking about the attic, if you're interested.
Originally, the only brake I had was a short reach one - about half of it was catching on the tyre's sidewall, which made braking quite interesting...
-

I'd have thought a Hybrid frame - I assume the wheels you have are quite chunky in the tyre department?

Yes but the tires on the MTB wheels makes them about the same size.
I used 23mm and 25 mm tires and there were still plenty of frame space.

No the frame is a non brake disk one and the wheels wouldn't accept the discs.
I meant normal road bike caliper, double pivots or single pivots bolted through the fork crown and rear brace
If the wheels a close fit it might work

I think they are quite close but there isn't a hole for the centre bolt.

Get the drill

I'll video it and put up the damage on Utube?
