What?  Hadn't even realised they'd gone!
Could you buy Opal mint chews in the 70's or is that a figment of my imagination?  I know Pacers were minty.

Your memory-branes are in order, M. P.  There were indeed Opal Mints, which subsequently became Pacers and then became Not available Any More.

The fact they taste no different if you forget to remove the wrappers should tell you something.

mmm, Opal Fruits.  Tasty tasty.

I'm sure the Telegraph article is wrong about them being absent for 10 years though.  I used to buy 2-3 packs a week from the Student Union shop only last year.  They stopped selling the regular ones some time last year (or maybe the year before), but they still sell the sour ones though.

Or is it just marketing rubbish and they are really just rebranding Starburst back to Opal Fruits?

Starburst == Opal Fruits as far as I'm aware.

Opal Mints were a bit nasty; pale green and not quite minty enough.

At first they were just white and then later they had green stripes. I remember the tv adverts showed lots of white things suddenly having green stripes.

I like Opal Fruits, but not the new flavours, just the old ones. Red, green, yellow and orange.
