Not sure what category this should be posted in - it's ugly and not bike racing

Mods please see fit to move elsewhere

Surely having two dolly birds to kiss up to the winner at the end of each stage is real act of mysogyny. Anything else is just the Benny Hill factor.

Whilst the podium girls are absurd and clearly out of date Sagan is 23 and clearly responsible for his own actions. It is not the first time he has courted controversy off the road and I absolutely despise the led on the road as well. I hope Cav reduces him to tears at this years Tour de France.

I think the most telling contrast for me is between Sagan's boorish attempt at "banter" and the slightly uncomfortable look on Spartacus's face, arms firmly at his sides. I get the impression he'd rather just get a trophy to wave in the air, and I'll be glad to see the end of the podium girl cliché too.

There is a need for podium hosts, but no need for the fawni ng celebration. Without the 'double kiss' there would be no reason to choose either gender and instead could use the podium host role to celebrate the achievements of local youth.

Yes, the olympics and even things like UCI Track Worlds seem way ahead in that respect. They're actually needed only to carry trays of medals and jerseys, not to look pretty and kiss the winner on the cheek. I think a stage race could do with only the local dignitaries.

ToB has youngsters doing some of the podium host role. There is a case for a knowledgeable and sensible person to manage the podium party. The kiss on the cheek thing is rather outdated now. Time to move on.

Would be lovely to think that a moronic action could be the catalyst for change, no?

Perhaps Sagan is in fact a very clever young man? Or do I credit him with too much? ;)

I wish I'd never started this thread

Partly because the MEDIUGHH reporting is so piss poor. AND should one moan about "traditional" whacko ceremonies?

She posted that ^ on Twatter. Glad she's spoken out about it. There are an awful lot of depressing comments doing the rounds.

I think you probably do credit him a bit much.

Yes, I reckon I do. Sagan strikes me as more as an armpit fart kind of guy.

One incident from about three or four years ago which never seemed to attract much attention was the final podium at the TdF.  I think it was the mountains classification, where the rider snubbed the kiss of the black podium girl.
I think that this is mild in comparison (but still wrong).

Didn't George Hincapie marry someone he shared a podium with?

Slovakian woman who works for me, and comes from the same town as Sagan, thinks it funny (and she told me today that everyone back home does too).

He did. But I think he gave her his phone number rather than grabbing her arse. Old skool...

And you find that surprising? It is a pretty juvenile place after all.
