Oh yes.

No suspension, so it only weighs 15 kilos

That's about 33lb in old money.

I actually quite like my Thorn XTC but the paintjob on this Thorn Tandem was starting to make my head ache...

Tragically, I have no pictures to make your eyes bleed, but somewhere in Darlo there is a young man riding a baby-pink fixed wheel bike with white wheels, bar tape and chain set. Every time I see it I get a little bit of sick in my mouth. There's just something about this particular bike that is wrong. Not so wrong that it's right. Just wrong.

Couldn't find a really suitable thread for this skanky saddle I found in Herne Hill on Sunday, so I'll leave it here:

Looks as if somebody replaced the perished leather with a slice of doormat.

I think that's missing most of the cover. Many 70s saddles (including Brooks) were made of this matting with vinyl covering.

Does my 1996 Saracen conversion count as Fugly? I hope so, even though I was aiming for "butch" I may have missed.

Hacksawed Tortec ultralight rack on the front. Marathon 2.0" for that go-anywhere feel.

V-brake conversion from Cantis (courtesy of lots of insulation tape to re-route cables).

Ahead stem conversion from Quill (so I could reuse my Thorn bars.

Original wheels and drivechain (including the chain).

Shifters and Brake-levers are an upgrade courtesy of Rogerzilla's garage clearance a while back.

It's a bit of a pig but in a utility way, it's the bike I'm taking (again) car-camping to France. It's main role lately is a short cycle to get the Croissants in the morning and my way of exploring the villages near where we strike camp.

It's a lovely CroMo frame and was a fairly expensive bike when I bought it. It would make an almost perfect "Global Tourer" bike now.

...but it is a bit Fugly.

Why would you call that fugly? You'll hurt its feelings.

Old steel MTBs make excellent utility bikes. Everyone should own at least two (I've got a cellar full of the buggers! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it . . .)

I'd describe it as 'purposeful'.

The only thing at all ugly about it is the aheadset conversion, the rest is practical. Utilitarian perhaps but not ugly.
