The newer bridge at Barco de Ávila. Note how the roadway deck was widened at some point to cope with modern 2-way traffic

I put a bridge on your bridge.

I do like these for some reason, I find it pleasing to my eye.

The bridge over the Severn at Bridgnorth. It's north of the ex-ford at Quatford.

not sure if posted before but here's the oldest transporter bridge in the world (there are only 10 out of 20 ever built still operational) North of Bilbao

also happened to be the 700th anniversary of the founding of Portugalete on the West side when we were there last week

it's a paltry €0.50 to cross on foot (€0.90 by bike which we did) but there is still a little boat which does a great trade doing the same crossing for €0.45 which we also did

if you want to walk along the top it's €9.50  :( we didn't bother

Looks like a classic turnover bridge.  Research suggests Basingstoke Canal?

Edit:  Just searched "Basingstoke" - That very view is used for illustration, so I guess that's a "yes"!

Turnover bridges have both ramps on the same side so you didn’t have to unhitch the tow rope when the horsey crossed the cut. Very common on the Macclesfield Canal.

"I was wondering who'd be the first to spot that, Wilson!"  I was just going by the general appearance but you're quite right - there is clearly no towpath under the bridge on the left-hand side.  This is good for scrote-reduction.

Yes. Built in 1793. One of the nice things about the Basingstoke Canal is that it no longer goes to Basingstoke.
