What was the point of all the weeks of trials if it all came down to a good/bad business plan?

Entertainment.

It didn't really come down to the business plan because Tom's magic chair plan isn't being used.  Sugar went with his gut instinct.

The elevator pitch.

Not to be tried in a tower block in Swindon.
It is simpler than it looks.

Things did not go well for last year's winner, Stella Engish.

What a waste of all the stress she went through to get onto the show and do it.

She forgot the first rule.  No matter for whom you work, you only really work for yourself.  There's no loyalty given or received these days.  Of course Sugar is going to cut them all loose after a year unless they turn out to be shit-hot; you don't pay £100,000 for a project manager unless they are a specialist in that discipline and with a cast-iron track record in rescuing failed projects.  For an all-rounder in that role, it's silly money.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Seeing ex-barrowboy Alan Sugar popping up on BBC News 24 last week to tell us what an icon Steve Jobs was in the computer industry was like me telling them "that Lance Armstrong, he was pretty good at the Tour de France, wasn't he?"

Sugar's big mistake was not making the PCW in glossy white.

I'll be giving this a miss, probably:

Young Apprentice will start on MONDAY 24th October at 9pm BBC-1 for 8 weeks.
