I have a payg I take out on bike rides. It’s my non smart audax phone.  Running on credit from 2018.  It is mostly used to send texts to say I've finished a ride, and as an emergency phone.  It’s purely carried as an emergency phone at moment as all rides are to / from home.

This is a Tesco payg.

I expect a fair few PAYG mobiles are like mine, which was last topped up in February 2019...

I'm sure there are but I would guess they're backup phones that are not used (except a call/text every 6 months to maintain the number), which means that for those phones it doesn't matter that most operaters charge 30p per min for payg calls.

Certainly that’s my situation. I’ve got an old PAYG phone that I only use as an emergency phone when I ride my bike on the road. I don’t fancy falling off on an expensive iPhone, and also the weight and size of the iPhone ain’t great in a pocket.

And now Giffgaff are doubling prices for data. Soon will be 10p per MB.
Means better buying a bundle, if using more than 60MB per month.

The way some web designers act, 60MB is one visit to one page of their site...
