On today's ride my old ankle-cartilage problem flared up at ~50 k, shooting occasional bone-grinding-on-bone daggers but I popped a couple of paracetamol and ignored it.  Hell, at max distance from home what else was there to do?  Got home without too much ouch but walking down stairs isn't much fun right now, so the weekend's probably banjaxed. Hell, it's going to be ++hot anyway & club plans are for a few Black Forest cols, which I've never much enjoyed anyway. I shall rest it & watch go to sleep in front of the Tour.

Might have (tries to emerge from foetal position).

All a bit inconclusive. Still have blood in my wee, but no visible or measurable causes. Will have a CT scan with dye in my blood - this will be the equivalent of putting a partially inflated inner tube in a bowl full of water.

No extra meds. Oh, I have what sounds like a pretty large cyst on my right kidney, but they reckon it's harmless.

That's a bore.

Meanwhile my ankle felt fine yesterday but I kept off it all the same - took Mrs. T42 for a drive round the circuit I did on Thursday with coffee & blueberry tart in my usual place. Watched the TdF all afternoon.

This morning the ankle's sending out the occasional stabbing pain again when I walk down stairs. Bugger.  Maybe I should have taken the bike instead.

Missed all the preceding. Best wishes for the CT scan.

I am not enjoying my pre-colonoscopy low residue diet, but I expect I will dislike tomorrow's moviprep even more.

Sympathies! BTDT etc.
For me, days and days of teh DULL with no fruit & veg was worse.
My downstairs loo is close to where I normally sit in the kitchen so I could shuttle between seats with little ado.

I didn't find it that bad but had a fair amount of discomfort 24-48 hours after the scope.

Hope scope goes OK.

Yeah, no fruit, veg, nuts, wholemeal or granary anything etc is doing my head in. I want carrot sticks and hummus!

Don't know about you, but eating little other than Rich Tea biscuits is what I remember.
Prep diet is in total contrast with what the healthy bowel nurses advised for lifestyle 5 a day, wholegrain etc, on which I normally lived.

Hope you're back to hummus soon and it doesn't generate Megafartz with any residual Moviprep!

I'm definitely 'healthier' than I was last year - I've lost over 20kg since early November.  I'm regularly commuting 200km a week.  But two long rides in the space of a week have pointed out while I may be significantly lighter, I'm not particularly stronger.  *sigh*  It will come with time - and more riding - but it is a bit disheartening.
;D  Andrij.  I pronounce you Complete and Utter GIT

Blimey things move fast! Phone call earlier. CT scan tomorrow at 8.20am. Normal breakfast, make sure I drink at least half a litre of fluid. Well, that's easy enough. Should take about 20 minutes.

Had a checkup with the nurse at the doctor today - one of the NHS keeping an eye on one's creeping decrepitude things, prompted by a letter from them rather than any complaint on my part. Mostly a good report, but two less good bits: came over feint having a blood pressure test - never had that before; and my cholesterol is up, got told to sort my diet and come back in 3 months. Given my Dad'd heart attack last year that leaves me feeling not great, but well done to the NHS on being proactive.

MRI on 't brane today. I've got so fat that I was having trouble breathing while I was lying on my back in the scanner. A true reality check!

CT scan done. Results in a week or two.

I inadvertently left my Cateye computer in my pocket, remembering part-way through the scan when I already had a cannula in my arm. I had hoped that the machinery would give it some outrageous readings, but alas it didn't.

Catseye won't matter for CT, and if it had been an MRI they probably would have checked you for metaaal more carefully.

Colonoscopy is done and dusted. I was first on the list, so into the suite by about 2pm, in recovery and asking for a sandwich half an hour later. Some parts were more than uncomfortable and into painful, mainly as the scope was navigated around the sigmoid, but I sucked hard on the entonox and really, I've had period pain that was worse and nobody gives me entonox for that. I got to watch the monitor as well, and can say with pride that my colon looks like the Sarlacc Pit. Biopsies were taken, but no abnormalities detected visually, it all looks healthy.

Disappointingly, no monster farts so far.

The iPhone's probably about as bothered by x-rays as you are:  Given a large enough dose it's likely to cause the bits to go wibbly with potentially nasty consequences, but at normal levels the chances of a problem are remote.

Interesting fact:  In a dark room a sufficiently strong source of x-rays is visible to the human eye.  This was discovered around about the time that people realised that mucking around with strong sources of x-rays was a bad idea, so the factoid has faded into obscurity and the underlying mechanism goes unresearched.  It's a bit like carbon dioxide, in that by the time the concentration is high enough to smell it, you're probably in trouble.
