Dusk 'til Dawn 2012
« on: 03 March, 2012, 03:58:52 pm »
A few people expressed an interest previously. Now that Race Entry is officially open, is anybody prepared to put their money where their mouth is?!

It's £33 per person for teams of 3 or 4. Mens/womens or mixed. Rider changes can be made free of charge into September. And even up to race day if the changes don't affect the category.

Entries limited to 1000. No idea how quickly that figure gets hit - if indeed at all. Race day is first weekend in October.

ETA: BTW - this is for FUN! Any team with me in it is not going to trouble the leaders!

I'm expressing an interest.
Subject to:
  • release from the pilot- he has an almost NSTN-like feeling for off-road
  • domestic release
  • team release (if there's a WSW team they may not like me riding for someone else!)
  • fitness
  • other calendar commitments
That's almost definite, then!

If I'm not riding, and am around, I'll come do pit duties. It's just up the road, after all.
When do you need a firm entry?

When do you need a firm entry?

Well, I just had a look on their forum and someone asked how quickly entries fill up and only one person has replied with:

Quote from: Somebody on thetfordmtbracing.com
Typically a month out it's full but it has varied year to year.

I have no idea if s/he means a month after entries open or a month before the event  :-\

On the race entry page it says to check the forum for remaining places (helpfully with a broken link I might add) but there isn't any info there that I can see.

If I'm not riding, and am around, I'll come do pit duties.

Cool  :)

Ahh.
Well, on the plus side, I won't have any children that weekend, so that's one release. It also means anyone who wants to can use mine to sleep/eat/shower before and/or afterwards.
On the minus side, it's the weekend of JayP's mighty fine Venetian Nights Audax, which is, well, a great ride we had thought to repeat. I'll see what the pilot says, he might go to Macclesfield on his own and leave me to play dirty in the woods with other men I've met off t'interwebs.

OK I'm in.
Got a release, and have wangled us a pit crew man1.

Now to sort the MTB out.

1: Unfortunately he knows very little about bikes with gears and even less about bikes with suspension.

Great.

Fortunately as neither bike I'm likely to use has gears and only one has suspension our pit man should do a sterling job!

Let us know when you're coming. It really is just up the road.

I haven't told him yet, but Mr Smith & I are going to do some evenings getting down & dirty in the woods when the clocks change.

Ok, I have been trying to get an MTB riding buddy to drive up in his Land Rover with bikes in the back, but getting him to commit to anything is harder than getting in to a nun's knickers, so I'll probably just get the train up. Not sure when, but soon!

How about a camping weekend at Thetford on 31st March 1st April?

You could camp in my garden clearing, that weekend. (House'll be full of children). Or there's camping at Great Hockham, or East Harling.

I could be up for some camping action if I'm around that weekend. Is it worth mentioning in Rides & Touring to see if any of those weird roadies want to come?  :P

I was thinking of something like that, yes.
Might as well be sociable about it. A bit like an Audax really.

S'pose I'd better sort some new bearings out for the wheels on my mountain bike now...

I've been looking for the online registration but it would seem despite saying entry is open from March 1st, it is not yet open.

We are just holding off as we need to confirm some sponsors for this years D2D, we should be ready to go in a couple of weeks

I'll keep an eye on it....

There's half a chance I'll be entering Dusk til Dawn as a solo.

If I can get hold of my club's pop-up gazebo(s) would you lot be interested in pooling pit resources? As long as Mr Smith can be trained to change Hope brake pads in the dark...

I'll be too busy Dorset Coasting on 1st April to come over for the reccy ride I'm afraid.
