Terrific ride last night, good to see Stuart, brother of Fandango, again. I'm not sure he will be taking up our suggestion of joining yacf using Doggers Lane 2 as his handle.

Talking of dogging, and we did, quite a lot, there were at least 2 couples sat in cars at the Hurrells Lane ford. DL needs to check his research after informing us it was our local gay and transsexual dogging hotspot.

Anyhow, before we got there, just after we turned into Riffhams Chase, some git chucked a serving of McDonalds ketchup at me from his driver's window ...

Andy did a great job of being reserve kitty holder as DL was nowhere to be seen.

A small but taller Witham peloton consisting of ride leader OD, AndyC33, Sister Carol Fandango, his brother Danbury Dogger and myself took an easy paced route to the Compasses.

Our non-signalling ride leader tried to recreate the Barguil/Thomas crash between the Fandango brothers before his attention was diverted by his census of the natives at the Ford.  We trundled into the Compasses after 9.30 to see the road blocked by battling Morris dancers - apparently there had been a double booking and they were now involved in a street dance style dance off (possibly).

Tomsk and number one son were waiting for us there. Note to OD - be careful what you say to journalists about your dogging obsession.

We consumed Betty Stoggs, Crouch Vale mild, Hophead Hylder, Essex Boys and Buttlestone Moxee while listening to the winning Morris troupe celebrate with a 2 hour long accordion solo.  AndyC33 liked this a lot more than the rest of us.

Another great night even without a few regulars.

Your list of consumables didn't mention my lollipop or G&T. We need DL back for his comprehensive ride reports. No detail, however small, ever gets missed

I thought it better that you faced up to admitting those lapses in judgement yourself.  Hence not mentioning the avant grade shorts

You have destroyed your hard won reputation as the Ernest Hemingway of YACF in one night.

Sorry to disappoint! I was also devastated to learn you'd never been down Doggers Lane until last night!  I feel we've let you down. How can we make it up to you?

Burn the avant garde shorts ?

Perish the thought. I have several pairs by the way. Each is different although the pair I wore on Wednesday evening are perhaps the most avant garde.

Oh, in case you were all worried, DL has surfaced. He's ok, just been busy.

Ted, despite several of us taking the piss on many occasions and encouraging OD to pleeezze not wear the eye offending leg wear all attempts have been unsuccessful, I don't hold much hope for your request either.  Having said that they have been useful as an early warning system in the past for on coming cyclists such as the time that Chief (OTP) riding to intercept us recognised the group by seeing a pair of OD's avant garde apparel before anything else, including lights  ::-)

I'm trying to imagine how avant garde these shorts are!  ??? Are they improved with the addition of Denim Rainlegs?  :demon:

Isn't everything improved by the addition of Denim Rainlegs

It must take some time though as OD has yet to improve!  ::-)

Said avant garde shorts are in the wash. I'll take a picture once they emerge from the laundry system.

Forward planning alert ...

Last night the OD and huggy Home Offices signed off an all weekend bicycle adventure. Providing Oaky hasn't been sent back to the colonies he's got a green light too.

I've got some vague ideas but just need to check some details first. Some camping will be involved but won't be obligatory if you haven't got the kit or can't spare a whole weekend.

Anyhow, if you're interested pencil the 3rd and 4th of October into your diaries.

I'm wondering if the Country Bumpkins should ride to London once again. We had such a brilliant weekend last time.

^ Yes, that was good...

...2 nights away? Ride 30+ miles Friday evening, camp, then two whole days riding [or back by train?] Could do London and a fair chunk of Kent/Surrey/Sussex - Box Hill anyone?

Marker penned on to my year planner. Are you still having a barby on the 5th Sept? I just noticed that on my year planner...
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Yes to the barbie on the 5th.

And Tomsk if the Bumpkins are going to London should we not focus on London?  Isn't there a London site seeing audax whose route we could nick?  Or what about climbing the hills of London?  I did like camping at Crystal Palace.

This Wednesday evening, where are we going???

I will be looking for a wheel to follow as I can't do any route planning as my laptop is being fettled.

The Crown at Messing ?

We can head up around coggeshall etc then over to the pub leaving a short trip back after.

Weather still looking iffy or we could have gone to your pub at Rowhedge.

I'd say that was perfect unless anyone else has violent objections. It looks like you could be navigator for the evening.
