Carradice Bagman bracket/fixing size?
« on: 29 April, 2021, 11:00:29 pm »
Hi,

I'm considering the Carradice Bagman, however, I need a little additional information first before I take the plunge and place an order.  I don't have much room on my saddle rails behind the seat post and I'm not sure whether the Bagman fixing would fit.

Can anyone tell me what the dimensions of the fixing are?

Thanks,
Richard

Having just measured mine, the clamp block is 15.5 mm.

Watch out for just measuring free rail behind the saddle clamp though. On the bike I checked, the seat post is a single bolt hockey stick style model, and the Bagman clamp block won't slide right up to the saddle clamp as the central arch of the seatpost blocks it.

If you phone Carradice the lady who answers the phone is very helpful.
She sent me part of a fitting to see if it would fit awhile back.

I generally shove saddles right back, so it's never an issue.  I think an SQR works if a Bagman won't.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

It's a shame the bagman is so 'industrial' I'm sure it could be better executed. As an example my trike rack is made from fillet brazed SS tubing.
