I have an allotment
« on: 29 July, 2010, 08:00:22 am »
Just had an email from one of my neighbours, who is also the local Parish Clerk.

They have an allotment going spare.  It's not on the closest plots - but then again that gives me an excuse to hitch the trailer to the bike to haul the tools rather than just carry them round the corner.

Hopefully, by tonight I could have an allotment!

Fab.  Remember the first year is mainly clearing & digging, but stick with it

Wahay.  Now, with that douce southern climate you'll be able to grow all sorts of stuff that's unthinkable this far north.

I have an allotment!

And it costs.....

...£12 per year.

Now, I just have to clear it.  It's not in the greatest nick.  I may have to resort to Roundup and black sheeting.

There is an incredibly obvious joke here that no-one has yet dared to make, although I'm sure dear old Greg wouldn't mind  ;D
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Yours is cheaper than ours, ours costs £36 per year (although I have no idea when I'm meant to pay it  :demon:)

The fact that you are asking for a strimmer elsewhere implies that you have more like a jungle than an allotment.  Surely a jungle in your neck of the woods costs more than £12 per year  ;D

Well, the allotment has been spilt.  Mr R has one third and I have the other two thirds.

Mr R has cleared about half his part - and has planted some cabbages radishes and beets.

I've cleared about a quarter of my bit - but I now have five raised beds in.  These have been well manured and mulched.

Next task is to create a large ground level bed.

If you want me to bring the rotovator over when you've cleared the weeds, let me know.  :-*
