Scored a pair of Ortlieb Back Roller Classic panniers in good nick for 45 quid on the bay.  I happened to be searching just as they had been listed and hit the B.I.N, which was a little over half what the guy would have got had he let an auction run..

I just got an mms from a friend (and colleague) with a picture of her month old daughter who is wearing a Granny Annie knitted cardigan that was made for her when she was a peanut-sized blob.

This has made me infeasibly happy.

I think my choir is doing that in March. They've done it every year for a while, but since I've been a member they haven't ever practised it so, since I don't know it, I haven't ever gone to the performance. It seems to be one that they have in the repertoire, give it a quick run through before the performance and that's that.

Sometimes I think I'm incredibly lucky.

This afternoon's session at my Monday school was one of the most rewarding I've ever had, I think. Because I teach in both primary and secondary schools, it occasionally happens that I meet the same students at different stages of their education. In today's group there were some year 11 and 12 students whom I taught when they were year 1 and 2, at two different primary schools. One of those, who has been coming to my sessions on and off for about 10 years, today achieved her first ever checkmate. In some ways that's a more satisfying achievement than teaching really talented kids to win national titles. The fact that she enjoys chess enough to keep coming back for more, even though she struggles to "get it" and that her persistence has at last been rewarded with a checkmate, is delayed gratification taken to a very high level! I also had a couple of girls who were learning the moves for the first time, a Year 11 and a year 7. That's always good fun.

When the session was over and we were packing up, it was great to see the socialisation the kids get out of this sort of activity. Diminutive Year 7s were nattering with the Ladies & Gentlemen of the Sixth Form like old friends and the whole session went off with great good humour all round.

And they pay me for it!

I am indeed a very lucky chap.

I got a dark o'clock text this morning from my neighbour asking if I could take her boy to school for her, as her shop had had its window put though.  Needed a bit of a re-plan but we managed.  She just popped round and they've got it all under control... and she and the smallest superhero had been to buy me a bunch of flowers to say thanks.  He was very clear, apparently, about which ones I would prefer (_definitely_ dark purple not pale ones apparently) and, what's more, he was exactly right!

And then I opened the post and discovered a surprise present from a forumite.  And I have a bus journey tomorrow morning when I can make a start on reading it :)

Plus curry will be delivered soon, and my mate who is visiting for the weekend should be here around the same time.

And it's nearly the weekend.

I've been given a credit in a book!

It's only a self-published book on family history, but still, it's nice. The author didn't tell me, he just sent me a link to a free download of the book. He acknowledges the help of many people, but I'm the only one named.

I now have a warm fuzzy feeling.

I have had an email this morning (well I have had numerous emails, but only one that interested me, and it wasn't the PPI one :) )

My old boss emailed me to say they are awaiting sign off for a new team member and would I be interested in coming back?

DUR! Of course I would!

Ms Marco went to divisional trials last week - and passed! She is now in the RFU London & South East Divisional Squad as one of two scrum halves.   The bruises she got just from tackling drills were impressive.  :o

No messing though - straight into a full training weekend (including testing, & that usually means bleep tests ) at Brunel.

Blimey. She'll get a shirt with a red rose on.  ;D

Trick with bleep tests is either an elaborate heist combined with audio editing facilities the evening before, or an accomplice with a stopwatch at the relevant circuit breaker.

Via a somewhat circuitous series of events, largely involving some weapons-grade incompetence at RS Components, I seem to have acquired a Rev2.0 Raspberry Pi c/w really rather nice perspex case

Just need to work out what to actually do with it now (I already have a Rev.1 Pi which is acting as my NAS/DNS server)
