Title: A suitable epitaph to 2020
Post by: Beardy on 31 December, 2020, 02:40:22 pm
Without sinking into vitriol and bad SWEARS I think perhaps a borrowing from Adams, D but with a touch of irony in the delivery, encapsulates all I wish to convey.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Ah yes, all the fish that we don't eat.  Appropriate really.

We are having a "Good Riddance to 2020" Zoom Year's Eve later.  Seems to sum it up nicely.

The Longest Year

In which each day is like a year
A year, whose days are long.

This song by Counting Crows feels about right:
"A long December and there's reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last..."

Especially as it includes the line:
"The smell of hospitals in winter..."

A year, whose days are long.

And every one of those days was a Thursday.

Sorry to break the rules, but word of the year in the hatler household has, without doubt, been 'fuckers'.

'Mendacious' is a common prefix here.

My use of Anglo Saxon epiphets  has certainly increased during the year.

IMHO, the most overused word of the year has to be "devastated".
As in, "We're devastated that we can't go to Ibiza this half term.", or "I can't get an appointment to get my nails done, I'm, like, so devastated."
