No the nicht - forecast to be freezing conditions up here in Fifeshire.
I do have a plan on doing some like bike and bivvying in the spring / summer, I have found a location which is just a few miles on the MTB away :-)

Bit too cold for me tonight. Still wearing shorts but had to put a big jumper on today.

I wussed out - walked the total of 30', to the top of the garden. setting up around 11:30. Slept 'til about 6am, waking every couple hours (one Wowbagger ;D) - clear skies, pretty twinkling stars :thumbsup:

Brrrr...got distinctly cool between 3-6 where upper surfaces contacted, mainly due to the condensation freezing inside the Hunka, and starting to affect the Ember insulation - would've been better under tarp / tent, having distinct air gap, defintely wasn't as chilly on Tan Hill in the tent.

Tramped the SNO down. Plastic tarp as groundsheet, Hunka XL, Exped Synmat HL Winter LW, 9cm thick (-18c rating), S2S Ember III quilt (-11c rating). Worn: Fulke Mountain Men Socks, Leggings (+thin Trolls from ~5am), Helly base layer, Fleece, Bobble hat. Never needed gloves. Laces on boots froze, despite being wrapped in bags.

ACB are doing a camping trip next Tuesday, My kit is all with summer trips in mind, no way I'd want to use it in February!

Found the Hunka great in wet conditions, above and below, but wont let condensation disperse from inside... Hence feeling cold by morning or wet if too warm in the night. Gone with a MSR e-bivvy that is plastic on bottom and not so on top. It fends ok in drizzle. When really wet we use a lightweight Rab tarp anyway. Not such an affordable set up as Alpkit, but having suffered a few times I did not mind shelling for a good night sleep. Not crazy enoigh to go out just yet though! 😀

Good luck and I look forward to hearing how it went. I hope to do some bivvying this year for the first time since I spent a night under an oilskin poncho (RAF recruit training 1979)... but I'm going to wait till the weather gets warmer :thumbsup:

My first bivvy dates back to over 40 years ago on the northern edges of Bleaklow. How time flies!

My first bivvy was in 1975 new year eve. Up on kinder in a bright orange survival bag. I woke up with snow on the bag!

Currently ensconced. Gosh this sleeping bag is warm - there's a bit of deer poo on the bag, mat (and my cycle shoes) but otherwise all going well!

I slept in a churchyard once and a fox curled one off on the end of my toe. That must have taken some balance not to have woken me up. My world smelled of fox for the next two days.

Worked out alright! Very temperate night time. Bit wet in the morning but I waited for it to subside a bit and then rode off. Recommended!
Some potential changes to make:
Army arctic sleeping bag might be a bit overkill but better that than be cold
Full length mat would work better than 3/4 - water did get through a bit at the bottom of the bag
Might pick somewhere further away from any road next time, including church yard. Some odd things were happening at 11pm.

It was a bit odd. Didn't seem like anything 'dodgy', I think it might have been some teenagers running around the graveyard taking photos of each other with the camera flash on while they were waiting for someone else to pick them up.
Anyway thankfully they didn't come across me. No other bothers.

A little bored I am which has led me to spend 30ish quid on an eBay tarp, a couple of poles and a bit more paracord. I already have a Hunka bivvy bag, mat and sleeping bag.
I'm thinking a back garden bivvy might be fun. Anyone else up for it? If so perhaps we can agree on a date in the foreseeable and do it together in a not together kinda way.

I might go hammock. I don't own a bivvy bag, borrowed thr one for our Mersea trip and I'm a bit put off as know there's a few rats about in my garden currently.... They're being dealt with shall we say

I did the NHS garden camp-out a few weeks ago - I slept on a hard standing as everything else is uneven. it was pretty fun!

It's quite a big deal. Running again on May Bank holiday. I did the Easter one and tried out my new carcamping tesnt. Very pleased with the Robens Pioneer EX3. Very well put together and acres of room. If I ever go cycletouring in the winter I might just consider taking it at 2.8 kg.

It's my daughters birthday next week & she's asked to celebrate with garden camping. She's a little nervous of it but has agreed that she & I will bivy/tarp whilst the wife (who is not up for the idea at all) and youngest will go in one of the tents :thumbsup:
Will be the first use of my 'new' bivy, not quite the circumstances planned, but a nice way to get some use of it all the same.

I slept out last night my excuse was to try out a new bike parking system and my newly arrived sea to summit sleeping pad and it is great to vary routine a bit. The new pad the ultralight insulated with pump was fine. I had not read anywhere about the "pillow lock" system. It was too late to put the sticky stuff on last night so I did it today. Being a picky sort with pillows I have one of the approved sea to summit pillows, issues with balance make me picky. The stuff you stick on does not seem very sticky but the pillow definitely "sticks" to the pads. So one up for sea to summit.

No, It's fine; didn't notice anything overnight at all.
Being a side sleeper though the Elan wa s a bit tight at the sholders (in vertical plane), but that's probably due to using the Exped 9cm mat; I'll try it with a 5cm.

May I ask how wide you are at the shoulders? My Elan is on its way and I side sleep.

It was a thick mat (Exped 9cm) thobut, normally it’d be the Soloist tent (for colder times), which has more room - I’ll see what a Cloudbase (5cm) fits/feels like when it turns up...bivvy somewhere on the way to Peak District end Sept.

I'm only 47cm and my NeoAir is 6.5cm so it should be ok. I like the look of the Cloudbase. The shape seems good for comfortable sleeping.

It was fine, didn’t sleep any different / notice any less comfort - but then we rarely get consecutive sub-X degree days for an extended comparison ;)

Had dinner as normal with the rest of the clan and then set out for an overnighter up to the Otterburn Rangers in Northumbria. Brilliant night for a bivvy, clear starry sky and surprisingly mild, though I was woken in the night by an inquisitive sheep.

If you get condensation inside the Hunka isn't it because you have dressed too warm?

Bivvy night out with the lad on the banks of the River Ancholme about a mile from where it meets the Humber.
Very warm night, we both ended up losing the Bivvy bags to keep cool. Of course it rained at 4am so we had to hastily get back into them.
Not tonight, last week but I’ve only just gotten round to uploading the photos.

So I managed a night in heavy rain the other weekend in my Elan. Whats the secret to keeping the rain out and an air vent above? I have the main zip about 10cm open at the 2 oclock position of the main zip and somehow the rain managed to get in and drip on to the floor. I was on my Numo which is quite good at keeping you our of any water but surprised as I fished my phone and shoes off the wet floor!

I always seem to wake up and need the gap at the top, not sure if that's a psychological concern or not.
