I bought the first 100 or so issues and had them all kept in pristine condition until my late (first) wife threw them out in a fit of OCD one day. It was generally well-written, focused on the music rather than trying to be fashionable or political, and managed to get access to some pretty big names. The reviews were good and I bought several albums solely on their recommendation, without having heard them.
It was a good product for its time. Its arrival coincided with the mass marketing of the compact disc, which gave it scope not only to cover 'current' music but also to wallow in nostalgia. I recall the first issue came with a free book reviewing 'the best' of the back catalogues that were available at the time. Unfortunately, the reviewers were so busy giving their opinions of the music that they often neglected to notice how atrocious some of those early analogue to digital transfers were and sang the praises of CDs that were, frankly, inferior to the vinyl originals.
Later launches such as Mojo and Uncut seemed to have squeezed Q out of the market. Still, 30+ years isn't bad going.
