All depends on quite how old the oil is.

What does sharp knife have to do with oil change? (or should I not ask?)

I had planned to go to Glasgow for the day this coming Sunday...
BN: No trains running between Carlisle and Glasgow until February; not possible to arrive in time for plans via replacement service or alternative routes.
GN: Tickets cancelled and full refund obtained.

Our new shower was fitted today. It's rather nice, & now that end of the renewed bathroom is finished.

The light in the middle of the bathroom ceiling had to be moved. Instead of a beautifully smooth professionally re-plastered ceiling covered in fresh white paint added by me, there's now a little round patch of new damp pink plaster, not quite as smooth as the rest of the ceiling.  :(

BN - I got burgled last night.  Bastards let themselves in the front door, picked up my [empty] wallet, my watch and a kitbag full of yesterdays dirty rowing kit, let themselves into the garage and out the garage door, taking a bike with them.

GN - they took my shittest bike, the one i havent ridden in over a year that was hanging on the wall above all my other bikes, all of which I'd miss more than that one

If anyone sees a large on-one inbred with a badly fitted 8-speed alfine hub and pretty average handbuilt wheels (ahem) on ebay - let me know and I won't bid on it!

(bit gutted about my watch....  Insurance will cover it but I've had it a long time and loved it)

Update:

Good news - The Cambridge police have been brilliant.  They've found the bloke with my bike (and five others which didnt fit him) and he's already been in court and is being detained.  They've given me regular updates and have all been really nice people.  Top marks.

bad news - they havent found my watch and I still dont like the bike :)

to finish the story, I got a letter from the wonderful policepeople this morning, it seems the the wee scrotal appendage who burgled me also assaulted a copper who was nicking him, pleaded guilty to the whole shebang last week and got 4 years... Result!

And the insurance company has paid out for everything too, so I've been able to replace my camera stuffs and my watch.

no bad news at all!

A reverse entry: Good news, I'm unhurt, as are my passenger and the two guys in the car behind....  Bad news, my lovely clean unmarked car now has a trashed tailgate and rear "bumper" courtesy of being tail ended this morning on the M25.

GN(?): I joint the property-owning classes when I pick up the keys to our house this lunchtime
Very much GN: no more shyster landlords (who my OH convinced to let us out of our contract early, hurrah - pointing out that council enforcement might be less sanguine about the extensive mould than the landlords are seems to have done the trick.)
BN: I now have to move house again, aargh.

Good news. I managed to get the small black stains out of the landing carpet.
Bad news. It's left clean spots!

GN:  Caught the last train home.
BN:  Had to leave the ball just after midnight to do so.  There were pumpkin jokes a-plenty.

Lesson learned - next time I won't plan an early start on Sunday followed by an afternoon of entertaining.

GN: I now know what's wrong with my transmission.
BN: I need a new freehub, so effectively a new hub. And probably a new rim too, so might as well get a whole new wheel.
GN: I can refresh my wheelbuilding skills and knit it myself.
BN: If I can remember how. All that measuring stuff...
BN: That means the new chain and cassette I bought weren't needed.
GN: They'll probably come in useful anyway (and they've lasted longer than the freehub!)

Then again ^ I suppose I could just fit a new freehub and do a rim transfer. That would be quicker and maybe think of a new build later.

Then again again ^^ I've just read that Shimano freehubs are specific to each hub. I thought they were generically interchangeable within the limits of speeds and OLD, just getting better bearings, ratchets and metallurgy as you paid more. Shop (who I actually trust) have told me mine is a poor design of freehub (which I suppose explains how it wore out quicker than chain and cassette) so that seems pointless. Ok, new hub and wheelbuild it is or else new factory wheel.

Good News: flight home fully boarded and doors shut 20 minutes before departure time.

Bad News: take off slot not until 20 minutes after departure time

Yay!! After enough years working in a different bit of $megacorp to forget it could happen, Teh n+1 fund got an unsuspected hen's-tooth-like pay packet boost, related to a piece of work I'd completed

Boo!! The visit to my dentist will lead to an anti-boost to Teh n+1 fund to the tune of a multiple of the above.

GN: Club auction last night. Always entertaining. I managed to offload some clutter find new loving homes for items and bought some brand new 105 brakes for £16.75. (Bidding went ... £15, £16, £16.50, £16.75, so it was the final 25p that clinched it!  ::-))

Possible BN: I'm not entirely sure yet they'll fit over my mudguards.

GN: That will be the perfect reason to build up a summer bike!

BN @ 17:39: "This is the garage, actually your car has failed its MOT and we won't be able to find out how much it's going to cost to fix it until Monday"
