Saw my first Goldcrest today - sadly dead

My wife was tidying in the garden and found the tiny corpse. Fairly recent, amazing "gold" stripe on the head. Just what it was doing under the huge leylandii (our neighbour's that overshadows our garden) we've no idea. They are in the local area - Wendover woods, about 4km away, is known for a colony, but usually they stay in the treetops there (deciduous woodland mainly).

In my experience, goldcrests like conifers. The tiny creatures they eat are to be found in large numbers in evergreens. In our local park we often see them in the yew trees.
