Stuffed Ultrarandonneurs
« on: 25 September, 2016, 12:52:12 pm »
Boris, who has recently completed his 11th SR series in a combination of bum bags, bar bags, panniers and saddlepacks wants to know if any other stuffed animals can top his efforts.  ;D

Nice one Boris; I usually have a night-time friend along for an SR, but it's not always the same one...
I'd offer you some moral support - but I have questionable morals.

HK usually has a companion but he might have gone AWOL at a bike theft.

PB Bear might qualify as an Ultrarandonneur and I know he did six SRs in a year with Chris Avery.

I'm pretty sure Sunnie the Hoob is a kapok-enabled world citizen that achieved Ultrarandonneur, multiple ISRs and RRTY.

I don't think any of these qualify.  Surely they have obtained unfair assistance.

At least Tandem passengers stokers carry a brevet card

PB Bear was an official AUK member.

...and may have carried his own Brevet card, if I remember rightly.  Good point.

Google failed me on this one! Or rather, gave me too many possibilities ...

"kapok-enabled" ??

I understand, from those who know such things, that kapok is a better quality of stuffing. That sort of thing is important to some folk.

From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceiba_pentandra
Kapok fibre is light, very buoyant, resilient, resistant to water, but it is very flammable. The process of harvesting and separating the fibre is labour-intensive and manual. It is difficult to spin, but is used as an alternative to down as filling in mattresses, pillows, upholstery, zafus, and stuffed toys such as teddy bears, and for insulation.

If I recall rightly PB Bear was brave enough to complete his SRs without sheltering in various bags etc.  Although Boris would like to point out that his stoker deprived him of another SR by using the Mersey Roads 24 as one of the qualifying riders and not carrying him  ::-).  I'm not sure what he is stuffed with, but from memory, his tag wore away a long time ago, he was made in Korea, if that helps.

For reference, Timps, the new Hoob (due to Sunnie being stolen earlier this year) has just bagged Cracker Swamp 1200km brevet in Florida. On his way to join his lost cousin for an ISR - next stop Oz in November.

He is very much looking forward to a post ride bath.

Allez Timps

Boris has never achieved an ISR title, but he has got 3 PBPs, a Mille Miglia and and Mille Alba on his foreign travels as well as summiting a few Alps.  In a backpack he has reached the summits of Grand Teton and Mount Athabasca when support by two legs and assorted bits of rope, crampons, etc.

All welcome here but it sounds like Boris is only one long brevet in a different country away from an ISR.
