After The Great Collapsing Hrung Chair Disaster of Gal./Sid./Year 03758 I finally got around to ordering a new swivel chair.

There were some hold ups with delivery but it finally arrived this morning and my lardy arse is now comfortably seated again.

It's a used Humanscale Freedom chair via an Ebay seller,  quite expensive but a lot cheaper than a new one and it appears to be immaculate.

Very comfy with nice firm back support and it's very stable when you lean back to put your feet on the desk.

Very comfy with nice firm back support and it's very stable when you lean back to put your feet on the desk.

And 8 years later the left armrest has just broken off.   The plastic bit that holds it onto the metal frame has snapped.  I doubt a repair would be feasible. 


Looks like spares are available.  https://www.chairclinic.co.uk/humanscale-fixing-cups-for-arm-pads/   Not cheap, but a lot cheaper than a new chair !   Currently £1200 at John Lewis (leather) with interest free 12 month credit.  At least then I'd get the 15 year warranty!

It should be about £140 for a new arm cup & 2 new arm pads (both are split) , so I think I'll go down that route.

I got the old armrest off.  The plastic bits have a tiny allen headed grub screw as part of the retaining mechanism.   The chap in that video said it was a 3/32".   I tried all my allen keys and the only thing that would fit was the long ball end of a 2.5mm VAR key, part of a set I bought from "Hard To Find" years ago.  I had to use pliers on the angled bit to get enough leverage, they were pretty tight.
