the XL version

It arrived today.Marj has sent it to Santa for wrapping ;D

What do you plan to do with it?

After unwrapping it, obviously  ;)

the plan, subject to RL, is to use it sometimes in conjunction with a tarp for.....
S240 rides
summer camping weekends
yacf meetings

it's first proprer outing is likely to be the KildaleKonvention, assuming I can attend.

Strewth he has me seriously considering one of these hunka things. I suspect he is working on the basis that bunks are full and he roughs it..........which is hugely admirable.........

MK those look very neat and safer than a cheap candle lamp. Are they expensive?

I bought a lightweight plastic hammer for putting in and taking out tent pegs. It was half price in a sale and I couldn't resist  :D

A dozen Y-pegs for £4, and a silk sleeping bag liner for £16.70, from Black's closing down sale (We've got a big new Go Outdoors).
Also some walking/ski pole tips for 75p a pair.

What is the Go-Outdoors like in your fair city? I was thinking of having a ride to have a look.

I got an Alpkit titanium saucepan as a Christmas prezzie.

I was disappointed.
My memories are of the original Camping & Caravan Centre in Sheffield, before they rebranded as Go and started opening shops all over the place. What we got is more like a bigger version of Blacks, with more in the way of reasonable clothing, not so much for backpacking

I've bought a Vango 200 Spirit Plus for £155 inc delivery from

http://www.theoutdoorshop.com/default.asp?submit=Home

That's £120 cheaper than list price and £50 cheaper than the last one I bought in 2004, IIRC.

I love those tents!

Can you cook (safely) in that there lobby Gordy? Very attractive tent. Went to Go Outdoors to buy some GT 85 which is half price and would have liked to have collected an unbreakable mirror but they did not have one so came away with folding trowel instead. The place was absolutely heaving I guess camping and related outdoor actitivity is going to have a bumper year

Sure! I usually cook breakfast porridge whilst still in my sleeping bag. Even if I'm up and about, I think I always light the stove inside the porch because it keeps the wind off.

This is the baby:

I think that "Grasshopper" colour is the 2009 or 2010 model. I hope I like it. The later ones are dark green.

We have a vague plan to get it out to our son's place in NZ so that we can have a tent there for odd nights under canvas.

Update: the package arrived yesterday but turned out to be a Vango Spirit 200, not a Vango Spirit 200 Plus (which has a porch.)

My excitement has now turned to grumpiness, although the outdoor shop have responded well to a phonecall and are arranging a collection and replacement. I hate it when mail order goes wrong.

A LARGE family tent, it has bedrooms, carpet, a porch and everything (though no cat flap).

A snuggly warm sleeping bag for Mrs T (she complained that her sleeping bag wasn't warm enough for her last year)

A 3 season sleeping bag and sleeping mat for me, all I need now is a bivvy bag and I am set for the mountains :)

My tent mini-saga is sorted, and I'm now happy. The Outdoor Shop arranged for the wrong tent to be collected FOC and delivered the correct one yesterday.
